✏Whiplash and Other Useful Illnesses Book Summary : Whiplash is diagnosed so frequently that in the U.S. alone its annual cost is estimated at between 13 and 18 billion dollars. Up to 10 per cent of all whiplash "victims" are reported as permanently disabled. Andrew Malleson contends that whiplash is nothing more than a neck strain that heals in a matter of days or weeks and argues that medical and legal professionals foster and create illnesses by dangling illusive fortunes in front of would-be claimants. In an exposé of how some health care and legal professionals prey on the anxieties and greed of their clients, Malleson argues that whiplash is only one of a long list of largely fabricated illnesses and injuries – such as fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, occupational back pain, chronic pain syndrome, and post-traumatic stress disorder – that drain resources from the health care system.

✏Whiplash E Book Book Summary : Providing a balanced, evidence-based discussion of whiplash and its associated disorders, Whiplash: A Patient Centered Approach to Management compiles information from many sources into a single, definitive reference. It clearly delineates rationales and procedures, covering cervical spine anatomy, neurology, kinesiology, epidemiology, patient history and assessment, imaging, soft tissue injuries, articular lesions, rehabilitation, and prognosis. Using numerous full-color photos and illustrations, an expert author team led by Dr. Meridel Gatterman offers concrete guidelines for a patient-centered approach to care of whiplash and whiplash-related conditions -- one that recommends minimally invasive procedures and therapies whenever possible. A companion Evolve website includes video clips showing stretching exercises, printable patient handouts, and narrated PowerPoint slides. A patient-centered approach to care emphasizes working with patients as partners, with both preferring minimally invasive procedures and therapies where appropriate, in a way that promotes self-healing, a holistic approach to the patient, and a humanistic attitude with regard to the patient/practitioner relationship. An easy-to-follow organization helps you to clearly identify whiplash and plan a course of treatment, beginning with an in-depth description of whiplash and the various approaches to treatment and moving on to cover the anatomy of the cervical spine, the mechanism of injury, physical examination, and imaging, then continuing with the management of whiplash injuries and complications such as headaches and joint injuries. Full-color photos and illustrations clarify concepts and procedures. Evidence-based content is based on findings in current literature, and cited in chapter references. Coverage of both typical and less common types of whiplash injuries helps you accurately assess varied symptoms and avoid overlooking any related signs and symptoms. Detailed coverage of the relationship between the cervical spine and the cervical distribution of the autonomic nervous system helps you recognize the potential complications of whiplash and how nerve anatomy informs these complications. More than 20 tables and charts provide a quick reference to facilitate review of the material. A glossary provides definitions and pronunciations of terms related to whiplash. Expert author Meridel Gatterman, MA, DC, MEd, is one of the leading chiropractic academics in the U.S., has written several other chiropractic textbooks and many peer-reviewed journal articles, has served as both a Dean and Director for two different chiropractic schools, and currently acts as a Consultant to the Oregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners. A companion Evolve website includes video clips of a chiropractor performing stretching exercises, plus an image collection, narrated PowerPoint slides, and printable patient handouts.

✏House of Commons Transport Committee Cost of Motor Insurance Whiplash HC 117 Book Summary : Whiplash injuries can have debilitating consequences for those who suffer them. However, some of the increase in whiplash claims will have been due to fraud or exaggeration. The Government must tighten up the requirements for motor insurance claims and ensure that insurers honour their commitment to reduce premiums. The Government should consider requiring claimants to provide proof that they have either been seen by a doctor or attended A&E shortly after the accident. The MPs also note that their previous recommendation on making the links between insurers and other parties involved with claims more transparent has been ignored. The absence of comprehensive statistics about road traffic accidents means that it is impossible to relate the increasing number of personal injury claims in recent years to the number of accidents. Data collection about road accidents needs to be improved help to assist detection of fraudulent personal injury claims and help highways authorities improve road safety by targeting spending on accident black-spots. The Committee also supports the proposal for an accreditation scheme for medical practitioners who provide medical reports in relation to whiplash claims. Access to justice could also be impaired by Government proposals to switch whiplash claims between £1,000 and £5,000 to the small claims court, particularly for people who do not feel confident to represent themselves against insurers who will use legal professionals to contest claims. Ways in which use of the small claims track could be combined with the routine submission of expert evidence should be considered

✏Whiplash Injury Book Summary : In the past two decades much has been published on whiplash injury, yet both the confusion regarding the condition and the medicolegal discussion surrounding it have increased. In this scenario, a guide to recent and current international research in the field is more necessary than ever. Especially functional imaging methods – such as single-photon emission tomography, positron emission tomography, functional MRI, and hybrid techniques – have demonstrated a variety of significant brain alterations. This book accordingly offers a critical approach to the challenging interpretation of the new research data obtained using functional neuroimaging in whiplash injury. It covers all aspects, including the imaging tools themselves and the different methods of image analysis. Whiplash Injury: New Methods of Functional Neuroimaging will hopefully help patients, their relatives and friends, physicians, and others to understand this condition as a disease.

✏Whiplash Injuries Book Summary : The new edition of this book provides an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of whiplash-associated disorders, focusing in particular on a functional approach to clinical and instrumental diagnosis and rehabilitative treatment. It fully reflects the changes in our understanding of whiplash injuries since the first edition, and in particular the increased awareness that whiplash is a whole-body trauma in which forces act progressively from the lumbar region to the brain, through the cervical spine. Detailed attention is paid to the functional connections between the sense organs of the inner ear, the sympathetic system, and the spine with a view to optimizing diagnosis and treatment. It is explained how various treatment options can be employed to best effect in patients with different symptoms, following, but updating, the well-known Quebec Task Force guidelines. Underestimated aspects such as positional vertigo, somatic tinnitus, temporomandibular disorders, and back pain are also considered. This book will be an invaluable tool in everyday clinical practice for all who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of whiplash injury.

✏Whiplash Book Summary : It used to be that when someone spilled hot coffee on their lap, they called themselves clumsy. Nowadays, they call a lawyer. America's win-the-legal-lottery mentality is humorously presented in Whiplash!, a compendium of the most outrageous real-life lawsuits ever concocted by greedy, legal minds.Whiplash! is guilty of humor targeting a court system out of control. Guided by legal sleazeball Tony Buttafony, Esq., chapter one: Lawsuits Made Easy hilariously demonstrates the finer points of spilling hot coffee on your lap and other techniques for cashing in, in court. The book also boasts the funniest legal jokes, most outrageous lawyer license plates, a legalese dictionary, and, of course, a caseload of comical lawsuits. You'll be the judge as you read true cases like the couple who sued after getting hit by a train while having sex on a subway track, or the man who sued a stripper after getting hit in the head by her breasts, and the criminal who sued his warden for a bad haircut. Whiplash! is fairly divided into twelve chapters that include ludicrous lawsuits about sex, medicine, advertising, sports, and celebrities. A great gift for law students and for the rest of us who have been waiting for a book that targets people we love to hate-lawyers!

He gasps out a partial warning, then drops dead on the floor. Whip marks crisscross the dead man’s back—the signature of their trail boss, the sadistic Amos Coyne. Sandy and his friends bury the body and return to the bar, expecting the drama to be over. ✏Reducing the Number and Costs of Whiplash Claims Book Summary : Between 2006 and 2012 the number of reported road traffic accidents (RTAs) fell by around 20% yet the number of claims for personal injury arising from RTAs rose by 60%. Of these some 70% are for whiplash injuries, with 2.7 claims for such injuries being made for every accident reported. Other European countries have much lower claim rates: Germany 47%, Spain 32%, France 3%. The impact on the cost of motor insurance is significant, with £90 of the average premium stemming from the cost of whiplash injuries. The Government and the insurance industry are committed to action to reduce the cost of motor insurance and to deter fraudulent and exaggerated claims. The measures in this consultation paper look to remedy two areas where the current arrangements are imperfect: the difficulties in diagnosing the injury; and the nature and cost of the court system that can work against insurers challenging suspect claims. Diagnosis could be improved through a system of independent medical panels. In the courts, the proposals look at the small claims track threshold for personal injury claims arising from RTAs, which would provide a more cost effective route for straightforward claims and self-represented litigants. The Government also invites further ideas to address this complex issue.

✏Economic Whiplash in Russia Book Summary : Understanding the ramifications of Russia's economic crisis for its foreign policy is critically important. Since the crisis hit, Russia's foreign policy moves have largely been characterized by greater assertiveness, as demonstrated by the “gas war” with Ukraine. As a result, some analysts have concluded that Russia is on a path toward confrontation with the West. However, it is too early to make definitive judgments about the direction in which the crisis will push Russian policy. In fact, the crisis has created incentives for the Russians to work with Western partners, in particular on economic issues. Therefore, now is the time for the Obama administration to put a higher priority on commercial ties with Russia. Closer economic relations are in the U.S. national interest, create conditions for cooperation on noneconomic issues, and provide a stronger foundation for the bilateral relationship. This report recommends 10 steps that the Obama administration can take to bolster commercial ties between the United States and Russia.

✏Whiplash Book Summary : Cervical whiplash injuries continue to be a common problem throughout the industrialized world. Despite recent scientific developments, unhelpful treatment of whiplash injuries such as prolonged immobilization, passive modalities, and unnecessary surgery exist. Many patients with chronic pain are labelled as having "psychological problems." Overtreatment and excessive use of diagnostic imaging are common. Relatively recent developments in this field, backed by extensive study, have initiated an evolution in the treatment of whiplash injury. Dr. Malanga is a well-known expert in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, particularly in spinal medicine and orthopedics. The entire book focuses only on whiplash, providing an extremely in-depth treatment. Relatively recent developments in this field, backed by extensive study, have initiated an evolution in the treatment of whiplash injury. Thus, there is a need for a comprehensive presentation of the changed thinking. Includes coverage of the Quebec Whiplash Study.
