✏Project Management for the Oil and Gas Industry Book Summary : Project management for oil and gas projects comes with a unique set of challenges that include the management of science, technology, and engineering aspects. Underlining the specific issues involved in projects in this field, Project Management for the Oil and Gas Industry: A World System Approach presents step-by-step application of project management techniques. Using the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) framework from the Project Management Institute (PMI) as the platform, the book provides an integrated approach that covers the concepts, tools, and techniques for managing oil and gas projects. The authors discuss specialized tools such as plan, do, check, act (PDCA); define, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC); suppliers, inputs, process, outputs, customers (SIPOC); design, evaluate, justify, integrate (DEJI); quality function deployment (QFD); affinity diagrams; flowcharts; Pareto charts; and histograms. They also discuss the major activities in oil and gas risk assessment, such as feasibility studies, design, transportation, utility, survey works, construction, permanent structure works, mechanical and electrical installations, and maintenance. Strongly advocating a world systems approach to managing oil and gas projects and programs, the book covers quantitative and qualitative techniques. It addresses technical and managerial aspects of projects and illustrates the concepts with case examples of applications of project management tools and techniques to real-life project scenarios that can serve as lessons learned for best practices. ✏The Project Manager s Guide to Mastering Agile Book Summary : Streamline project workflow with expert agile implementation The Project Management Profession is beginning to go throughrapid and profound transformation due to the widespread adoption ofagile methodologies. Those changes are likely to dramaticallychange the role of project managers in many environments as we haveknown them and raise the bar for the entire project managementprofession; however, we are in the early stages of thattransformation and there is a lot of confusion about the impact ithas on project managers: There are many stereotypes and misconceptions that exist aboutboth Agile and traditional plan-driven project management, Agile and traditional project management principles andpractices are treated as separate and independent domains ofknowledge with little or no integration between the two andsometimes seen as in conflict with each other Agile and "Waterfall" are thought of as two binary,mutually-exclusive choices and companies sometimes try to force-fittheir business and projects to one of those extremes when the rightsolution is to fit the approach to the project It’s no wonder that many Project Managers might beconfused by all of this! This book will help project managersunravel a lot of the confusion that exists; develop a totally newperspective to see Agile and traditional plan-driven projectmanagement principles and practices in a new light as complementaryto each other rather than competitive; and learn to develop anadaptive approach to blend those principles and practices togetherin the right proportions to fit any situation. There are many books on Agile and many books on traditionalproject management but what’s very unique about this book isthat it takes an objective approach to help you understand thestrengths and weaknesses of both of those areas to see how they canwork synergistically to improve project outcomes in anyproject. The book includes discussion topics, real world casestudies, and sample enterprise-level agile frameworks thatfacilitate hands-on learning as well as an in-depth discussion ofthe principles behind both Agile and traditional plan-drivenproject management practices to provide a more thorough level ofunderstanding.

✏TestGoal Book Summary : Software testing is traditionally seen as a difficult and time consuming activity that is hard to embed in the software development process. This book provides a different view. It explains to stakeholders how testing can add value to software development and doing business, and provides the tester with practical information. TestGoal is not just another methodology. Several good testing methodologies exist. But, like any other profession, also testing encompasses more than the simple application of a methodology. After all, strict adherence to a specific methodology is no guarantee for success. Success stems from the mindset, enthusiasm, knowledge and skill of the tester. These factors determine whether a methodology is applied successfully and whether testing takes on a result-driven character. And that’s what TestGoal is about: a result-driven attitude, testing principles and expertise as fundament, and a hands-on six step plan to enable result driven testing. Derk-Jan de Grood and his colleagues from Collis, an international software testing company, know about the main pitfalls in test projects from their extensive professional experience. TestGoal has emerged from the office floor and captures over a decade of best practice. TestGoal is made by professionals for professionals, and it combines the mindset, knowledge, and skills required to add value with testing and make software development more successful. This book explains in a clear language how you can make testing result-driven. It explains why testing is important and describes all of the activities involved in testing. It is enriched with recognizable examples, practical tips and useful checklists. This makes it a "GO kit" that enables testers to immediately get started and add value to their organization.

✏Aquifer Storage and Recovery in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan Book Summary : Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is a process by which water is recharged through wells to an aquifer and extracted for beneficial use at some later time from the same wells. ASR is proposed as a major water storage component in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), developed jointly by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The plan would use the Upper Floridan aquifer (UFA) to store as much as 1.7 billion gallons per day (gpd) (6.3 million m3/day) of excess surface water and shallow groundwater during wet periods for recovery during seasonal or longer-term dry periods, using about 333 wells. ASR represents about one-fifth of the total estimated cost of the CERP. Aquifer Storage and Recovery in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan examines pilot project from the perspective of adaptive assessment, i.e., the extent to which the pilot projects will contribute to process understanding that can improve design and implementation of restoration project components. This report is a critique of the pilot projects and related studies.

✏Conflict Prevention in Project Management Book Summary : Tis handbook has three primary objectives : (?) to give the project managers gu- ance to avoid con?icts in project execution and to understand the procedures in case of legal proceedings, (?) to give lawyers the understanding of the technical problems in project management, and (?) to give students an introduction into the technical and legal aspects of managing big international projects. Te case studies and qu- tions at the end of each chapter are especially directed to the student and the young project managers, who try to enter the ever more complicated world of managing international projects. Tis book does not try to give legal advice, but it tries to help engineers and project managers how to thoroughly plan their project in order to avoid con?icts during execution. In this way it also helps lawyers to better understand their clients, when they have to defend them in con?icts regarding big international projects. Te authors’ many years of experience in managing international projects on one side and in assisting as experts and monitors of litigation on the other side have led them to write this book and thus to help other project managers avoid the mistakes that they themselves and other project managers have made in the past.

✏Testing Complex and Embedded Systems Book Summary : Many enterprises regard system-level testing as the final piece of the development effort, rather than as a tool that should be integrated throughout the development process. As a consequence, test teams often execute critical test plans just before product launch, resulting in much of the corrective work being performed in a rush and at the last minute. Presenting combinatorial approaches for improving test coverage, Testing Complex and Embedded Systems details techniques to help you streamline testing and identify problems before they occur—including turbocharged testing using Six Sigma and exploratory testing methods. Rather than present the continuum of testing for particular products or design attributes, the text focuses on boundary conditions. Examining systems and software testing, it explains how to use simulation and emulation to complement testing. Details how to manage multiple test hardware and software deliveries Examines the contradictory perspectives of testing—including ordered/ random, structured /unstructured, bench/field, and repeatable/non repeatable Covers essential planning activities prior to testing, how to scope the work, and how to reach a successful conclusion Explains how to determine when testing is complete Where you find organizations that are successful at product development, you are likely to find groups that practice disciplined, strategic, and thorough testing. Tapping into the authors’ decades of experience managing test groups in the automotive industry, this book provides the understanding to help ensure your organization joins the likes of these groups.

✏Reconstructing Project Management Book Summary : This hugely informative and wide-ranging analysis on the management of projects, past, present and future, is written both for practitioners and scholars. Beginning with a history of the discipline’s development, Reconstructing Project Management provides an extensive commentary on its practices and theoretical underpinnings, and concludes with proposals to improve its relevancy and value. Written not without a hint of attitude, this is by no means simply another project management textbook. The thesis of the book is that ‘it all depends on how you define the subject’; that much of our present thinking about project management as traditionally defined is sometimes boring, conceptually weak, and of limited application, whereas in reality it can be exciting, challenging and enormously important. The book draws on leading scholarship and case studies to explore this thesis. The book is divided into three major parts. Following an Introduction setting the scene, Part 1 covers the origins of modern project management – how the discipline has come to be what it is typically said to be; how it has been constructed – and the limitations of this traditional model. Part 2 presents an enlarged view of the discipline and then deconstructs this into its principal elements. Part 3 then reconstructs these elements to address the challenges facing society, and the implications for the discipline, in the years ahead. A final section reprises the sweep of the discipline’s development and summarises the principal insights from the book. This thoughtful commentary on project (and program, and portfolio) management as it has developed and has been practiced over the last 60-plus years, and as it may be over the next 20 to 40, draws on examples from many industry sectors around the world. It is a seminal work, required reading for everyone interested in projects and their management.

✏Managing the Development of Software Intensive Systems Book Summary : An authoritative primer on managing software-based development projects and complex software/hardware systems Managing the Development of Software-Intensive Systems discusses the application of project management and general management techniques to large software development projects and complex software/hardware systems. Drawing upon the author's experience in developing a project management workshop for AT&T employees, as well as in teaching software engineering courses at Monmouth University and workshops for a variety of other audiences, this practical guide allows readers to reliably develop large software applications and systems that require the simultaneous development of electronic hardware and the software that controls the hardware. Integrates the project management processes of planning, organizing, monitoring, and control with the underlying technical processes used for product development Teaches how to plan and manage verification and validation for large software projects or complex software/hardware systems Explains what additional management activities must take place in organizations with a multi-project environment Discusses how inspection results and testing metrics can be used to monitor project status Describes techniques to help manage inherent risks in software-based product development Each chapter is accompanied by a case study based on an actual situation with which the author is familiar; this gives the reader experience in doing the management work. The author teaches readers how to use their own experience to improve the way they manage projects and provides a method for reviewing successes and failures to help increase their capabilities in the future.
