✏The Starch Blocker Diet Book Summary : Are high-carbohydrate, starchy foods -- breads, pasta, potatoes -- your dietary downfall? Here's a program that's almost sinfully satisfying but low in calories, a new medical strategy based on thirty years of clinical testing that helps people lose weight without giving up their favorite foods. The anti-carb revolution that's sweeping America has finally found a sane solution. A recently discovered natural substance derived from legumes instantly eliminates most of the calories in starchy foods, giving you a huge caloric reduction and an effective fat-burning metabolism. No more denial diets! Using the groundbreaking information in this book, you can lose weight without hunger for the first time in your life. The calorie-neutralizing substance known as Phase 2 binds with the enzyme that digests starch, so when you take it just before meals, most starch, similar to fiber, passes through your system without releasing calories. There are no side effects, but a huge benefit: up to 1/3 of your total daily calories are instantly eliminated! The Starch Blocker Diet provides a simple, three-step program for achieving safe, lasting weight loss: Step 1: Redistributing Calories You'll actually eat more starchy foods -- to maximize the power of this new way to lose weight! Step 2: Taking Emotional Control This program helps you regain power over food by stopping cravings and improving mood chemistry. Step 3: Burning Body Fat with Supercharged Exercise When starch calories are neutralized, you burn body fat faster, so exercise has a heightened fat-loss effect. This no-hunger, nondenial strategy lets you eat a richly satisfying diet while still losing weight. You'll find formulas for individualizing the program to fit your own caloric and lifestyle requirements, a unique starch calorie chart, detailed scientific data, sample menus, and more than 100 delicious, high-starch recipes, many by James Beard Award-winning chef Philippe Boulot.

✏Starch Book Summary : The history of starches and investigations of starch containing raw materials goes back many centuries, (ii) steady progress in the understanding of processing and modification processes of starches awaits further elucidation. Fortunately, the cluster model of native starch granules is now generally accepted. The remaining problems concerning physics and chemistry, biochemistry and genetics, and processing and modification of starches are dealt with annually at different conferences and symposiums by experts in various fields. The numerous questions concerning structural organisation of starch granules, their behaviour in different thermodynamic conditions (temperature, water content, pressure) during biosynthesis and in different solvents at processing of both starch and starch containing raw material deserve further study because they are not yetentirely understood. With this purpose in mind, scientists from different countries continue to discuss the problems of starch science.

✏Surface Application of Paper Chemicals Book Summary : With the exception of a slight hiccup during the height of the recent environmental movement (during the early 1990s), when for a year or two consumers were prepared to pay a price premium for lower quality recycled paper than for the virgin product, the inexorable improvement in the quality demanded of paper products continues. This demand for quality covers not only the aesthetics ofthe product but also its performance. Moreover, it is becoming increasingly the case that papers designed for a particular use must, as it were incidentally, also perform well in alternative applications. An example is that of office and printing papers, which are expected to perform as well in copier machines as in all the various forms of impact and non-impact printers. But even greater demands are made in other product areas, where board designed for dry foods can also be expected to protect moist and fatty materials and be made of 100% recycled fibre. The need to isolate foodstuffs from some of the contaminants that can affect recycled board is a· serious challenge. Thus, papermakers are constantly striving to meet a broadening spectrum of demands on their products; often while accepting declining quality of raw materials. The product design philosophy that has arisen in response to this is increasingly to isolate the bulk of a paper from its uses: to engineer the needed performance characteristics into the paper surfaces while more or less ignoring what happens inside.

✏Starch derivatization Book Summary : "Starch derivatization: fascinating and unique industrial opportunities" addresses the large possibilities of starch as an industrial raw material. Starch is industrially produced on a large scale, from various plants such as corn, tapioca and potato. It is renewable, "green" and cheap. Although the starches from these plants differ, the current application areas are the same. Besides the classical applications of starch in food products, their use as adhesives and in the paper and textile industry, new applications such as bioplastics are being developed.Currently a relatively small number of chemicals are used industrially for modification. By varying the degree of modification and the combination of different modifications a large number of products can be prepared. New possibilities are created by the use of new chemicals and the preparation of highly substituted products in non conventional solvents, such as aqueous alcohols. Using newly developed enzymes also increases the scope of applications. This book describes a number of new developments and addresses topics such as:Relation between granular structure and derivatization, Derivatization in aqueous alcohol, New starch esters, Use of spacers in derivatization, Enzymatic derivatization The book is meant for the (industrial) starch researcher as well as for everyone else interested in the derivatization and application of polysaccharides and natural polymers.
