✏The Office Book Summary : AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The untold stories behind The Office, one of the most iconic television shows of the twenty-first century, told by its creators, writers, and actors. When did you last hang out with Jim, Pam, Dwight, Michael, and the rest of Dunder Mifflin? It might have been back in 2013, when the series finale aired...or it might have been last night, when you watched three episodes in a row. But either way, fifteen years after the show first aired, it’s more popular than ever, and fans have only one problem—what to watch, or read, next. Fortunately, Rolling Stone writer Andy Greene has that answer. In his brand-new oral history, The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, Greene will take readers behind the scenes of their favorite moments and characters. Greene gives us the true inside story behind the entire show, from its origins on the BBC through its impressive nine-season run in America, with in-depth research and exclusive interviews. Fans will get the inside scoop on key episodes from "The Dundies" to "Threat Level Midnight" and "Goodbye, Michael," including behind-the-scenes details like the battle to keep it on the air when NBC wanted to pull the plug after just six episodes and the failed attempt to bring in James Gandolfini as the new boss after Steve Carell left, spotlighting the incredible, genre-redefining show created by the family-like team, who together took a quirky British import with dicey prospects and turned it into a primetime giant with true historical and cultural significance. Hilarious, heartwarming, and revelatory, The Office gives fans and pop culture buffs a front-row seat to the phenomenal sequence of events that launched The Office into wild popularity, changing the face of television and how we all see our office lives for decades to come.

This book is a blueprint for building a Lean foundation for your office Readers of this book can immediately apply the concepts of 5S to their office and administrative activities, resulting in the elimination of waste, reduced production costs, and increased profits. ✏That s What She Said a Guide to Using The Office to Demonstrate Management Parables Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Topics i Book Summary : In watching NBC's "The Office," one can reflect on the common office-place interplay and recall their own, similar situations in their own work environments. How many times has a worker "goofed off" when the boss is out of the office, or played a potentially damaging "prank" on a co-worker? Herein lies the inspiration for this book. "The Office: An American Workplace" (as the pilot episode was originally titled) is a humorous and sometimes entirely too accurate portrayal of the American Workplace, and therein an ideal demonstration of many topics that are taught in today's business schools. Most obviously, topics of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management are demonstrated, but the list does not end there. The pedagogical use of "The Office" is not limited to the examples in this text but only by one's imagination. This book sets out to inform OB/HR instructors about the entertaining and informative use of "The Office" for use in their classroom.

✏The Office Book Summary : For many of us, it's where we spend more time and expend greater effort than anywhere else. Yet how many of us have stopped to think about why? In The Office: A Hardworking History, Gideon Haigh traces from origins among merchants and monks to the gleaming glass towers of New York and the space age sweatshops of Silicon Valley, finding an extraordinary legacy of invention and ingenuity, shaped by the telephone, the typewriter, the elevator, the email, the copier, the cubicle, the personal computer, the personal digital assistant. Amid the formality, restraint and order of office life, too, he discovers a world teeming with dramas great and small, of boredom, betrayal, distraction, discrimination, leisure and lust, meeting along the way such archetypes as the Whitehall mandarin, the Wall Street banker, the Dickensian clerk, the Japanese salaryman, the French bureaucrat and the Soviet official. In doing so, Haigh taps a rich lode of art and cinema, fiction and folklore, visiting the workplaces imagined by Hawthorne and Heller, Kafka and Kurosawa, Balzac and Wilder, and visualised from Mary Tyler Moore to Mad Men, from Network to 9 to 5 plus, of course, The Office. Far from simply being a place we visit to earn a living, the office emerges as a way of seeing the entire world.

✏Made by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture Book Summary : "The book presents an ethnographic account of the design rhythm in the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Written as a collection of short stories, it draws on the mundane trajectories of models and architects at the OMA and shows how innovation permeates design practice, how everyday techniques and workaday choices set new standards for buildings and urban phenomena. In these stories of invention the "Eureka!" moments are missing. They are replaced by routine gestures of model making, recycling, assembling, recollecting, rescaling. This enquiry on architecture-in-the-making is based on participant observation in the office of Rem Koolhaas, extensive interviews with architects, and photo documentation on various projects: the Seattle Public Library, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the China Central Television (CCTV) in Beijing, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), la Casa da Musica in Porto, and others."--p. ✏The Office Accommodation of the Department for Culture Media and Sport and Its Sponsored Bodies Book Summary : This report looks at the cost and utilization of the office accommodation occupied by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and 24 of its sponsored bodies. The 25 organisations covered by this report spent some £43 million in 2004-05. The focus of the report is on cost efficiency, with consideration of two key indicators (i) the cost of space (rent, rates and operating costs such as cleaning and utilities); (ii) the way that space is used (the number of square metres per member of staff), which combined, give the measure of cost per person. The NAO sets out a number of recommendations: that all organizations should adopt the efficiency measurement as based on cost per unit of space, space per person and cost per person; that performance data in measuring efficiency should be shared across departments; further efficiency measures should be examined, including renegotiating rental payments; reducing operating costs; subletting space to others; reducing demand for workstations. Also longer term policies should be taken into consideration such as: reorganizing existing offices into more space efficient layouts; exploring the scope for achieving savings through moving premises; achieving economies of scale. Further to this, all organizations should have an accommodation strategy, and adopt a coordinated approach to property management.

✏Re imagining the Office Book Summary : 'An office workplace, like so many other products and services in the future, will fail if it only manages to be ordinary'… Adryan Bell, one of the pioneers in the design of work and workspace, uses his new book Re-imagining the Office as a canvas on which to paint a vivid and, at times challenging, image of the future office. Through six inter-related themes, efficiency, effectiveness, engagement, expression, e-work and experience he encourages the reader to challenge and re-invent many existing long-standing workplace conventions. These include basic aspects like office design and image, workplace status and symbolism, dependency on desks, use of alternative work settings and locations, territorialism, use of paper, exploitation of technology and flexibility with time. More fundamentally, he encourages a rethinking of the whole concept and location of the workplace - and its role in supporting our work and the organisations we work for. The book is both backward as well as forward looking as the author remarks: 'we can learn from the past. And we should not throw everything completely away in boldly pursuing, as we must do, the new future'. Re-imagining the Office is a call to arms for all those concerned with workplace design; with the engagement of employees; with the practical task of nurturing the culture of knowledge, innovation and transformation that are now seen as key to future competitiveness in business and the delivery of relevant and sustainable services in the public sector.

✏The Office of Lord Chancellor Book Summary : The office of Lord Chancellor is one that has frequently been questioned. However, the extent and diversity of the questioning seldom attained the proportions reached in the final years of the twentieth century, when they drew attention to the deficiencies of the position of Lord Chancellor, the inherent tensions within that position and the incongruity of such a role in a modern democracy. This book examines these questions. It analyses the development and current position of the Lord Chancellor as head of the judiciary, member of the Cabinet, judge and Speaker in the House of Lords and considers his role in relation to judicial appointments. It also looks at the LCD, the development of which acts as an indicator of the changes in the office of Lord Chancellor. It concludes by making proposals for reform, the most far-reaching of which is the abolition of the office.

✏The Office of a Prophet Book Summary : Are there still prophets in the church today? Too many people in the body of Christ assume the prophet is no longer a functioning member of the five-fold ministry simply because the office was vacant for about 400 years of biblical history. The Office of a Prophet brings to light the responsibilities, gifts, and privileges bestowed on those who occupy this office. It details the assignments, obedience, strengths, and weaknesses of prophets in the Old and New Testament, as well as lays emphasis on pitfalls to be avoided by those called to this office. Whether you're called to The Office of a Prophet or just doubt the legitimacy of this office, Choice Nwachuku will enlighten you on importance of the prophet in the proper functioning of the five-fold ministry and the need for it in this dispensation of the end times.

✏The Office of Fair Trading Book Summary : The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has improved its operations following recommendations on maintaining competition in markets made by the National Audit Office and Committee of Public Accounts in 2005 and 2006. It now needs to concentrate its efforts on strengthening the skills and experience of its staff at key management grades, and be clearer on how long it expects its investigations will take. The OFT is now directing its work to areas that have the most impact, though this refocus on higher priority cases has led to a perception that the OFT is less interested in smaller markets, with a risk that its deterrent effect will be reduced in these markets. The OFT has taken steps to address this perception, launching investigations into more local markets such as in construction and bus transport. The time taken to process high profile cases has been reduced by introducing better project management and more flexible ways of working, including using bigger teams and temporary legal staff. The OFT has also brought criminal charges in two cartel cases for the first time under the Enterprise Act, one of which to date has resulted in criminal convictions. The OFT recognises that some of its cases are still taking too long. The OFT operates in a competitive labour market and still continues to face challenges in attracting and retaining talented staff. The OFT has provided project management and leadership training to its staff, but it needs to sustain and increase this work in order to continue to recruit and retain staff at key management grades.

But when he manipulates events to get hired into an office that is staffed by all women, events quickly spiral out of control. As romances sprout like weeds and Michael finds himself fighting for the women he works alongside, rather than against them, the question is whether he will be able to focus on his work, keep his flings a secret, and achieve the success he has always dreamed of. In turns hilarious, sobering, and eye-opening, The Office Girls tells the story of every woman who works in the corporate world and the challenges they face on a daily basis.

✏Appointment of the Chair of the Office for Legal Complaints Book Summary : The chairmanship of the Office for Legal Complaints is one of the posts which are subject to (non-binding) pre-appointment scrutiny by select committees. Elizabeth France was recruited to the position on 10 October 2008, and the Justice Committee took oral evidence from her on 21 October. The Committee considered Ms France's competencies relevant to the role, her experience and proposed strategies for meeting the key challenges and objectives of the new position. The Committee is entirely satisfied that Elizabeth France meets the criteria necessary for the role of chair for the Office for Legal Complaints.
