Errors are difficult to reverse and carry a huge price tag. Making correct decisions needs common sense i.e. a mix of knowledge, introspection, self awareness, general awareness, and foresight ---all of which are generally acquired late in life. Tara Thorat shares these insights on critical traits and issues of everyday life 'as one wayfarer with another' prodding us to develop the skill of conscious living through conversations with self-- so that we can emerge stronger and wiser through the tests of life. What distinguishes this book from other self help books is the compactness. - a lot of content is packed into just a few lines. This makes it a quick and easy reference book. ✏Big Things Happen When You Do the Little Things Right Book Summary :
📒The Little Things That Matter In The Big Game ✍ Kathy Boehlert
✏The Little Things That Matter in the Big Game Book Summary : What did a high school varsity basketball team and a nine-year-old boy with cancer have to do with each other during the 20102011 season? The basketball team encouraged and lifted up the nine-year-old. The nine-year-old encouraged and lifted up the basketball team. This is the story of how a local high school basketball team helped my son, Patrick, through the difficult chemotherapy he was receiving to treat stage three acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. They didnt know anything about Patrick other than that he was a big fan when the season started. As the season went on, all thirteen players began to reach out to Patrick; eventually he became part of the team. Their interactions and support gave Patrick windows of time when he was not a cancer patient. He was a fan and a teammate. Patrick served as an example to the team that there is more to life than basketball. He showed them that life is The Big Game and that the little things really do matter. I think this is a great story, and all young athletes should read this. It reminds us all that there is always somebody watching you and you are making a difference in their life, one way or another. Dan Harwood, teacher and basketball coach at Magruder High School
📒Real Leadership ✍ Dean WIlliams
✏Real Leadership Book Summary : Too many organizations today play follow the leader: the commander articulates a “vision” and people uncritically go along with it. But this type of leadership—what Dean Williams calls "counterfeit leadership"—generates an unhealthy dependence on an authority figure and relies on dominance, control, and group seduction to get things done. By hampering people's ability to anticipate and react to changing circumstances, it creates a self-limiting cycle. And if the leader's vision is flawed, the entire organization suffers. The true task of a leader, Williams argues, is to get people to face the reality of any situation themselves and develop strategies to deal with problems or take advantage of opportunities. Real leaders don't dictate; they help people face their challenges and make adjustments in their values, habits, practices, and priorities to ensure the enterprise is given its best chance to succeed. Williams details how to apply this new approach to the challenges every organization or community faces. Throughout, he demonstrates the practical application of real leadership in the real world through examples from his own experiences working with organizations as diverse as the government of Singapore, Aetna Life and Casualty, and the nomadic Penan tribe in Borneo, as well as historical examples and the insights gleaned from his many interviews with presidents, prime ministers, and business leaders. At a time when so many “visionary” leaders have led their organizations to disaster, Real Leadership offers a needed, proven alternative.
📒The Strategy Of Defeat At The Little Big Horn ✍ Frederic C. Wagner III
✏The Strategy of Defeat at the Little Big Horn Book Summary : The battle that unfolded at the Little Big Horn River on June 25, 1876, marked a watershed in the history of the Plains Indians. While a stunning victory for the Sioux and Cheyenne peoples, it initiated a new and vigorous effort by the U.S. government to rid the west of marauding tribes and to realize the ideal of “Manifest Destiny.” While thousands of books and articles have covered different aspects of the battle, few if any have analyzed the tactics and chronology to arrive at a satisfactory explanation of what befell George Armstrong Custer and the 209 men who died alongside him. This volume seeks to explain the circumstances culminating in the near-destruction of the 7th Cavalry Regiment by a close examination of timing, setting every event to a specific moment based on accounts of the battle’s participants.
