✏The Book of Virtues Book Summary : Responsibility. Courage. Compassion. Honesty. Friendship. Persistence. Faith. Everyone recognizes these traits as essentials of good character. In order for our children to develop such traits, we have to offer them examples of good and bad, right and wrong. And the best places to find them are in great works of literature and exemplary stories from history. William J. Bennett has collected hundreds of stories in The Book of Virtues, an instructive and inspiring anthology that will help children understand and develop character -- and help adults teach them. From the Bible to American history, from Greek mythology to English poetry, from fairy tales to modern fiction, these stories are a rich mine of moral literacy, a reliable moral reference point that will help anchor our children and ourselves in our culture, our history, and our traditions -- the sources of the ideals by which we wish to live our lives. Complete with instructive introductions and notes, The Book of Virtues is a book the whole family can read and enjoy -- and learn from -- together.

"We all need a hero or two to help us stand fast and think right," says William J. Bennett, author of The Book of Virtues, the #1 bestseller that millions of American families turn to for moral inspiration. With excerpts chosen for young children, this new treasury presents splendid tales of the valor and indomitable spirit that are a lasting testament to our cherished values. Jackie Robinson stands fast on the playing field -- and his strength of character inspires a nation. David slays Goliath -- and his faith and bravery give hope to underdogs everywhere. A little boy goes in search of an angel -- and finds one who guards him day and night: his own mother. From Abraham Lincoln and Mother Teresa to warriors on the battlefield, real moms and dads, and even young girls and boys, here are worthy and heroic figures all kids can look up to and emulate. The Children's Book of Heroes is a celebration of the endurance, sacrifice, courage, and compassion that characterize truly heroic deeds.

✏The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children Book Summary : Indigo children are bright, intuitive, strong-willed, and sometimes self-destructive individuals. They are often labeled (and misdiagnosed) as having ADD or ADHD because they won’t comply with established rules and patterns; and they may exhibit behavioral problems at home and at school. In The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children, Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., explores the psyche of these special kids and offers alternative solutions to Ritalin based on her extensive research and interviews with child-care experts, teachers, parents, and the Indigo Children themselves. Read the accounts of these remarkable children as they explain why they act-out, are aggressive or withdrawn; and what they want from the adults in their lives. You’ll also be fascinated by the psychic experiences that these kids have had in their lives so far. This is a groundbreaking book that can positively affect the ways in which you interact with your child, altering the shape of their future in miraculous ways.

✏Raising Your Kids Right Book Summary : Dr. Seuss's classic character the Lorax has delighted children for decades while passing along a powerful message about environmental responsibility. The book's young readers, and their parents, would likely be surprised by the emergence of a new character, Truax, a kindly logger created by a longtime employee of the wood products industry, who, not surprisingly, has a far different viewpoint to share. Yet the Truax character, and the book of the same name, is just one example of a growing genre of conservative-themed narratives for young readers spawned by the continuing strength of the American political right. Highlighting the works of William Bennett, Lynne Cheney, Bill O'Reilly, and others, Michelle Ann Abate brings together such diverse fields as cultural studies, literary criticism, political science, childhood studies, brand marketing, and the cult of celebrity. Raising Your Kids Right dispels lingering societal attitudes that narratives for young readers are unworthy of serious political study by examining a variety of texts that offer information, ideology, and even instructions on how to raise kids right, not just figuratively but politically.

✏Lessons in Morals and Virtues Stories Heroes and Guidance for Children and Young Adults Book Summary : This unique book gives Christian parents a new resource for teaching morals and virtues to their children and young adults. The cool and unique feature of this book is that the moral lessons of the Bible are collected and presented by topic or subject. More than twenty topics such as honesty, justice, forgiveness, modesty, and service are discussed. Each lesson can be covered in about fifteen minutes. Illustrated Bible stories, parables, and folk stories from around the world are used to keep things interesting and to make the topics come to life. More than one hundred illustrations accompany the text. This book is much more than just a collection of stories. Instead, the stories follow an introduction of the topic and the stories serve to illustrate the points of the topic. Each story has a message and the moral of each story is discussed. To engage the readers, discussion questions follow each chapter. The chapters end with a suggested prayer. There is no job more important than parenting. But parenting takes a lot of work and a lot of time. It can be especially tough to teach life lessons to children. The good news is that this book of lessons gives you a nicely organized resource to make the teaching job easier. Although young adults can read this book on their own, this book is really intended to be read together as a family. In reading together, the messages are strengthened, shared, and commonly understood. Hopefully, the lessons will serve as a family "code of conduct" and set of values. Although many of the stories in this book could be enjoyed by toddlers, this book is really targeted at older children in the approximate age range of 7 to 15 years. There are many moral story books for kids that contain collections of timeless stories and poems that have important lessons. Of course, the most popular ever is Aesop's Fables, which contains stories like The Tortoise and the Hare. A popular story collection book is William Bennett's book, The Children's Book of Virtues, which is a nice collection of stories and poems from around the world. The color illustrations are beautiful. I read this book to my children and it is fully suitable for toddlers and older children. This book, Lessons in Morals and Virtues, differs from the "story collection" books in several ways. Story collection books are just that - story collections - and they are usually free of commentary or story analysis. Most do not use religious material or make reference to the Bible or God. So, story collection books usually do not talk about New Testament teachings such as forgiveness, loving your neighbor, or "doing unto others." This book contains lessons primarily and stories secondarily. The stories bring to life the points of the lessons. Further, the stories are discussed. This book is certainly a religious book. Bible stories are often used and Bible teachings are paramount. As the saying goes, "necessity is the mother of invention." The author wrote this book because he was looking for a book, arranged by topic, which taught the main lessons of the New Testament. Not finding such a book led to the development of this book. Of course the Bible contains the lessons. The problem is that the Bible is not arranged by lesson topic, rather it chronicles periods and events. So, if you want to learn about a topic such as jealousy, arrogance, or forgiveness, you have to dig around or use some other Bible reference guide. Parents get started right away. The lessons are here for you!

✏Children Without Virtues Book Summary : Children without Virtues is an observation of where we were and where we are now raising children of our future-in a fast-paced, information-driven society, without discerning skills. The settings of family, neighborhoods, and community has changed drastically. We all experience a point of reference. Seeing and evaluating something for the first time, interpretation is key and needs guidance and input, especially when the subject is at a tender age. Individuality is what sets us apart from each other, and a healthy encouraging influence is life-changing in many circumstances. The current notion that what's bad is good, and what's good is bad has permeated the influence on our children. Parents will be more vigilant in dissecting and editing this information much more than ever before. As a mother and observer, I have become more concerned over the years of how we came to this place where children can go to school and fatally wound others, or literally bully children to death. I wrote this in 2003, after the Columbine incident, and it's been stored since in my files. I think it might be time to share.

✏Virtue by Design Book Summary : The Chinese holdings of the Cotsen Children's Library consist of more than 35,000 items from mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The collection comprises the entire range of printed matter a child might encounter in his or her daily life. Primers, textbooks, song books, arts and crafts handbooks, dictionaries, supplementary readers, wall posters and slides from the school classroom, comic books, magazines, newspapers, riddle and puzzle books, board games, cigarette cards, and cram-school manuals for extracurricular reading are all part of the library's Chinese collection, as are nursery rhymes, fairy tales, science fiction, and adventure stories for bedtime reading. The collection spans four centuries, from the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) to the present day. Virtue by Design concentrates on illustrated books, periodicals, and other printed matter, presenting more than 200 pictures arranged chronologically. The principal criteria for the selection of the pictures are visual interest and the power of the illustration to represent a particular period, ideology, concept, or political movement. These pictures chronicle the history of Chinese society, revealing the values, fashions and tastes of the time. They also provide information about social class, discipline, etiquette, family structure, dress, architecture, and cuisine. One particular aim of the Chinese collection of the Cotsen Children's Library is to show the impact of politics on children's books published from the late "Mao Zedong period" (1949-76) to the "Deng Xiaoping period" (1978-present). Both regimes are amply represented in the present book.

✏The Crystal Children Book Summary : Crystal Children reflect the new generation that has come to the Earth plane after the Indigo Children. They are approximately ages 0 through 5, although some members of the first wave of Crystal Children are as old as 7. These children are like Indigos—highly psychic and sensitive—but without the dark edge and the anger energy. The term Crystal Children is already taking hold worldwide, and people everywhere are talking about these special kids. Since Doreen is the only researcher who is publicly giving speeches on the subject, her audiences have been asking her for a book on the topic. It’s a natural sequel to her book The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children. As babies, Crystal Children may take longer than normal to begin talking. They are highly telepathic, and their tuned-in mothers communicate with them nonverbally. Because they’re so sensitive, the Crystal Children babies may fuss and cry a lot in crowded places. They’re also very fond of nature. Doreen once watched one Crystal Child walk from tree to tree, giving each one a big hug. Crystal Children are beautiful inside and out, like magnificent little high-priests and priestesses. One look in their eyes, and you’ll recognize Divine love and wisdom. Their auras are bright, radiant, and opalescent—they seem to glow from the inside! They talk about past lives, distant galaxies, and profound insights concerning peace and love. Most Crystal Children’s parents are aware that their kids are special, and they’re thrilled to be parenting such delightful children. The book includes many interviews with Crystal Children, their parents, and teachers. It discusses parenting and teaching methods that are essential to keeping these children happy and healthy, and how to avoid pitfalls that could spoil their special gifts.
