✏Stick Control Book Summary : George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control is the original classic, often called the bible of drumming. In 1993, Modern Drummer magazine named it one of the top 25 drumming books of all-time. In the words of the author, this is the ideal book for improving "control, speed, flexibility, touch, rhythm, lightness, delicacy, power, endurance, preciseness of execution, and muscular coordination," with extra attention given to the development of the weak hand. This indispensable book for drummers of all types includes hundreds of basic to advanced rhythms and moves through categories of single-beat combinations, triplets, short roll combinations, flam beats, flam triplets and dotted notes, and short roll progressions.

✏Beyond Stick Control Book Summary : Beyond Stick Control is the book that offers the snare and drum set player various eight bar solos to develop hand technique and hand/foot coordination. the book is divided into four sections: Part A: Hand Technique Development Studies, Part B: Hand/Foot Development, Part C: Ostinato Foot Pattern Development, and Part D: Linear Jazz Studies. the hand technique solos in part A serve as the foundation for the subsequent section B, C, and D. Through the use of accents, single and double strokes, paradiddles, paradiddle-diddles, swiss army triplets and their respective inversions (sticking displacement), the beginning to advanced drummer will greatly improve hand technique, stick and foot control and feel for their instrument. the companion CD contains recordings of the eight bar solos. This is a must for snare and drum set players who want to take their playing to a higher level.

✏Control of Machines with Friction Book Summary : It is my ambition in writing this book to bring tribology to the study of control of machines with friction. Tribology, from the greek for study of rubbing, is the discipline that concerns itself with friction, wear and lubrication. Tribology spans a great range of disciplines, from surface physics to lubrication chemistry and engineering, and comprises investigators in diverse specialities. The English language tribology literature now grows at a rate of some 700 articles per year. But for all of this activity, in the three years that I have been concerned with the control of machines with friction, I have but once met a fellow controls engineer who was aware that the field existed, this including many who were concerned with friction. In this vein I must confess that, before undertaking these investigations, I too was unaware that an active discipline of friction existed. The experience stands out as a mark of the specialization of our time. Within tribology, experimental and theoretical understanding of friction in lubricated machines is well developed. The controls engineer's interest is in dynamics, which is not the central interest of the tribologist. The tribologist is more often concerned with wear, with respect to which there has been enormous progress - witness the many mechanisms which we buy today that are lubricated once only, and that at the factory. Though a secondary interest, frictional dynamics are note forgotten by tribology.

✏F 86 Sabre Pilot s Flight Operating Manual Book Summary : Built as both a fighter-interceptor and fighter-bomber, the F-86 Sabre (sometimes called the Sabrejet) was one of the most widely-produced fighters of the Cold War. In December of 1950, three squadrons of Sabres were rushed into combat in Korea, where they dueled North Korean, Chinese and Russian pilots flying the MiG-15. By the time the war was over, F-86 pilots achieved a stunning victory ratio - destroying nearly 800 enemy aircraft with a loss of only 76 Sabres. The nimble jet also saw combat in the Taiwan Straight Crisis and the Indo-Pakistan Wars of 1965 and 1971. Originally printed by North American and the U.S. Air Force, this F-86 Flight Operating Manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Classified "Restricted," the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form. This facsimile has been reformatted and color images appear in black and white. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.

✏Neural Basis of Elementary Behavior in Stick Insects Book Summary : This monograph represents the current status of neuro ethological research on the diurnal behavior of the stick in sect, Carausius morosus. The growing profusion of inter related studies, many of which are published only in German, makes an overview of this field increasingly difficult. Many stick insect results contribute to general problems like con trol of catalepsy, control of walking, program-dependent reactions and control of joint position. For this reason I decided to compile and synthesize the results that are pre sently available even though the analyses are far from con cluded. In addition to both published and unpublished results of the group in Kaiserslautern (Bassler, Cruse, Ebner, Graham, Pfluger, Storrer, as well as doctoral and masters students), I have drawn upon the literature which had ap peared as of summer 1981. This includes above all the work of Godden and of Wendler and his colleagues in Cologne. A summary of the anatomical and physiological background, necessary for an understanding of these investigations, is provided in an appendix (Chap. 6). Methodological details must be obtained from the original publications. Figures for which no source is given are from my own studies. I intend to update this monograph on an annual basis. Requests for these supplements should be directed to me in Kaiserslautern. I would like to express my appreciation to all members of the group in Kaiserslautern for their constructive discussions, their unflagging cooperation, and their permission to include hitherto unpublished results.

✏Advances in Physical Ergonomics and Human Factors Part II Book Summary : The discipline of human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) is concerned with the design of products, process, services, and work systems to assure their productive, safe and satisfying use by people. Physical ergonomics involves the design of working environments to fit human physical abilities. By understanding the constraints and capabilities of the human body and mind, we can design products, services and environments that are effective, reliable, safe and comfortable for everyday use. This book focuses on the advances in the physical HF/E, which are a critical aspect in the design of any human-centered technological system. The ideas and practical solutions described in the book are the outcome of dedicated research by academics and practitioners aiming to advance theory and practice in this dynamic and all-encompassing discipline. A thorough understanding of the physical characteristics of a wide range of people is essential in the development of consumer products and systems. Human performance data serve as valuable information to designers and help ensure that the final products will fit the targeted population of end users. Mastering physical ergonomics and safety engineering concepts is fundamental to the creation of products and systems that people are able to use, avoidance of stresses, and minimization of the risk for accidents.

✏IUTAM Symposium on Vibration Control of Nonlinear Mechanisms and Structures Book Summary : During the last decades, the growth of micro-electronics has reduced the cost of computing power to a level acceptable to industry and has made possible sophisticated control strategies suitable for many applications. Vibration c- trol is applied to all kinds of engineering systems to obtain the desired dynamic behavior, improved accuracy and increased reliability during operation. In this context, one can think of applications related to the control of structures’ vib- tion isolation, control of vehicle dynamics, noise control, control of machines and mechanisms and control of ?uid-structure-interaction. One could continue with this list for a long time. Research in the ?eld of vibration control is extremely comprehensive. Pr- lems that are typical for vibration control of nonlinear mechanisms and str- tures arise in the ?elds of modeling systems in such a way that the model is suitable for control design, to choose appropriate actuator and sensor locations and to select the actuators and sensors. Theobjective of the Symposium was to present anddiscuss methodsthat contribute to thesolution of such problems and to demonstrate the state of the art inthe ?eld shown by typical examples. The intention was to evaluate the limits of performance that can beachievedby controlling the dynamics, and to point out gaps in present research and give links for areas offuture research.Mainly, it brought together leading experts from quite different areas presenting theirpoints of view.
