✏Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy Book Summary : Over the past decade, significant efforts have been made to develop stem cell-based therapies for difficult to treat diseases. Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells, also referred to as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), appear to hold great promise in regards to a regenerative cell-based therapy for the treatment of these diseases. Currently, more than 200 clinical trials are underway worldwide exploring the use of MSCs for the treatment of a wide range of disorders including bone, cartilage and tendon damage, myocardial infarction, graft-versus-host disease, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, critical limb ischemia and many others. MSCs were first identified by Friendenstein and colleagues as an adherent stromal cell population within the bone marrow with the ability to form clonogenic colonies in vitro. In regards to the basic biology associated with MSCs, there has been tremendous progress towards understanding this cell population’s phenotype and function from a range of tissue sources. Despite enormous progress and an overall increased understanding of MSCs at the molecular and cellular level, several critical questions remain to be answered in regards to the use of these cells in therapeutic applications. Clinically, both autologous and allogenic approaches for the transplantation of MSCs are being explored. Several of the processing steps needed for the clinical application of MSCs, including isolation from various tissues, scalable in vitro expansion, cell banking, dose preparation, quality control parameters, delivery methods and numerous others are being extensively studied. Despite a significant number of ongoing clinical trials, none of the current therapeutic approaches have, at this point, become a standard of care treatment. Although exceptionally promising, the clinical translation of MSC-based therapies is still a work in progress. The extensive number of ongoing clinical trials is expected to provide a clearer path forward for the realization and implementation of MSCs in regenerative medicine. Towards this end, reviews of current clinical trial results and discussions of relevant topics association with the clinical application of MSCs are compiled in this book from some of the leading researchers in this exciting and rapidly advancing field. Although not absolutely all-inclusive, we hope the chapters within this book can promote and enable a better understanding of the translation of MSCs from bench-to-bedside and inspire researchers to further explore this promising and quickly evolving field.

✏Stem Cell Therapy for Autoimmune Disease Book Summary : Stem cell transplantation may be complicated by treatment-related mortality and like the immune system that it regenerates has equal potential to either create and preserve or destroy. The dual nature that defines stem cells is differentiation that ultimately leads to death and self-renewal, which leads to immortality. What types of stem cells are there? How are they collected? What are their attributes and characteristics? This textbook devotes many chapters to familiarize the reader with the basic science, clinical aspects, and new questions being raised in the field of stem cell biology. Blood stem cells for tolerance and tissue regeneration are a rapidly developing research and clinical field that is being applied to autoimmune diseases. In clinical trials, autologous hematopoietic (blood) stem cells are being used to reduce the cytopenic interval following intense immune suppressive transplant regimens. While as yet not delineated, some possible mechanisms and pathways leading to tolerance after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are suggested in these chapters. Tissue regeneration from blood stem cells is also suggested by animal experiments on stem cell plasticity or metamoirosis (i.e., change in fate) as described within this textbook. Ongoing early clinical trials on tissue regeneration from blood stem cells are described in the chapter on stem cell therapy for cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Whether autologous hematopoietic stem cells, through the process of mobilization and reinfusion, may be manipulated to contribute to tissue repair in autoimmune diseases is a future area for translational research.

✏Stem Cells and the Stem Cell Therapy Book Summary : STEM CELLS AND THE STEM CELL THERAPY.It's contemporary benefits. The term "stem cell" is a general word used for describing the cells that possess the will power for an unending self-reproduction and still retaining its own original properties. This self-renewal ability must be in a regulated manner. These cells are like "mother cells" from which other cells are regenerated from. They have the ability to regenerate & repair damaged tissues in the body. These other cells that are re-generated aren't just the normal cells, but rather they are specialized kind of cells. Some quotas calls these regenerated cells 'daughter cells'.Stem cell therapy or treatment which is also known as the regenerative therapy (that is the generation of healthy cells to replace damaged or dead cells), is one that enhances the refurbishment or restoration of dysfunctional or damaged tissues so that they become more useful to the body, with the help of the stem cells. This book will enlighten you on the basics & rudiments of the stem cell therapeutic procedures, with all its contemporary benefits.

✏The Future of Brain Repair Book Summary : A scientist assesses the potential of stem cell therapies for treating such brain disorders as stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Stem cell therapies are the subject of enormous hype, endowed by the media with almost magical qualities and imagined by the public to bring about miracle cures. Stem cells have the potential to generate new cells of different types, and have been shown to do so in certain cases. Could stem cell transplants repair the damaged brain? In this book, neurobiologist Jack Price assesses the potential of stem cell therapies to treat such brain disorders as stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and spinal cord injuries. Certainly brain disorders are in need of effective treatments. These disorders don't just kill, they disable, and conventional drug therapies have not had much success in treating them. Price explains that repairing the human brain is difficult, largely because of its structural, functional, and developmental complexity. He examines the self-repairing capacity of blood and gut cells—and the lack of such capacity in the brain; describes the limitations of early brain stem cell therapies for neurodegenerative disorders; and discusses current clinical trials that may lead to the first licensed stem cell therapies for stroke, Parkinson's and macular degeneration. And he describes the real promise of pluripotential stem cells, which can make all the cell types that constitute the body. New technologies, Price reports, challenge the very notion of cell transplantation, instead seeking to convince the brain itself to manufacture the new cells it needs. Could this be the true future of brain repair?

✏Regenerative Medicine Book Summary : REGENERATIVE MEDICINE.STEM CELLS & THE STEM CELL THERAPY.Stem cells otherwise known as "power cells or regenerative cells", are cells (primary cells) defined as cells when under the right bodily condition or laboratory condition, these cells can/would split to form what is known as daughter cells (secondary cells). These stem cells possess the ability to become either self-renewing kind of stem cells or the specialized kind of stem cells. The term therapeutic cloning as it appeals to stem cell is a method that is used to produce adaptive and highly resistant to genetic defects stem cells that can survive on their own without been fertilized. For this process to be effective there must be a willful donor. This procedure entails the removal of the nucleus (which is the embryonic cell here) from an egg that is not yet fertilized. To generate the clone in question, the nucleus which was hitherto removed would now be injected into the unfertilized egg. After some time there will be fission or disintegration which in turn now leads to what is known as stem line.Chemotherapy is a serious minded way of rescinding the ever speedy growth of cancerous cells in the body with the help of a well-planned chemical drug treatment. This chemotherapy procedure isn't a kind of treatment whose positive effect would be felt almost immediately. The chemotherapy is widely embraced as a way of cancerous treatment because of its effectiveness in the reduction of the chances for there to be spread of the malignant cells. This chemotherapeutic treatment comes with its own side effects (fatigue, fever, hair loss, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and so on) and it is dependent on the type of cancerous growth, the location of the malignant cells and the general well-being of the individual. This book will enlighten you on all you need to know about stem cells and regenerative medicine. Enjoy reading!

✏Cell Therapy Stem Cells and Brain Repair Book Summary : As our world continues to evolve, the field of regenerative medicine f- lows suit. Although many modern day therapies focus on synthetic and na- ral medicinal treatments for brain repair, many of these treatments and prescriptions lack adequate results or only have the ability to slow the p- gression of neurological disease or injury. Cell therapy, however, remains the most compelling treatment for neurodegenerative diseases, disorders, and injuries, including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and stroke, which is expanded upon in more detail in Chapter 1 by Snyder and colleagues. Cell therapy is also unique in that it is the only therapeutic strategy that strives to replace lost, damaged, or dysfunctional cells with healthy ones. This repair and replacement may be due to an administration of exogenous cells itself or the activation of the body’s own endogenous reparative cells by a trophic, immune, or inflammatory response to cell transplantation. However, the precise mechanism of how cell therapy works remains elusive and is c- tinuing to be investigated in terms of molecular and cellular responses, in particular. Moreover, Chapter 11 by Emerich and associates, discusses some of the possibilities of cell immunoisolation and the potential for treating central nervous system diseases.

✏Commercialization of Stem Cell Therapy for the Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Book Summary : Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness or vision loss in working-age adults. Millions of adults over age forty are affected by the diseases and there exists an impending need for a safe and effective treatment. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the scientific and market potential of a novel stem cell therapy being developed as an alternative treatment. The aim is to treat diabetic retinopathy through the process of therapeutic angiogenesis with ex vivo expanded stem cells transfected with VEGF-PDGF growth factors. This promotes the formation of fully functional blood vessels in the retina of the eye, and restores vision.

✏Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering Book Summary : Stem cells are the building blocks for all other cells in an organism. The human body has about 200 different types of cells and any of those cells can be produced by a stem cell. This fact emphasizes the significance of stem cells in transplantational medicine, regenerative therapy and bioengineering. Whether embryonic or adult, these cells can be used for the successful treatment of a wide range of diseases that were not treatable before, such as osteogenesis imperfecta in children, different forms of leukemias, acute myocardial infarction, some neural damages and diseases, etc. Bioengineering, e.g. successful manipulation of these cells with multipotential capacity of differentiation toward appropriate patterns and precise quantity, are the prerequisites for successful outcome and treatment. By combining in vivo and in vitro techniques, it is now possible to manage the wide spectrum of tissue damages and organ diseases. Although the stem-cell therapy is not a response to all the questions, it provides more and more answers every day. Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering is a concise review on the functional, phenotypic, regenerative, transplantational and curative aspects of a stem cell’s entity. It is critical and encouraging at the same time, providing truthful and appropriate samples from the practice and research that can lead toward optimal use of this immense source of adjuvant and curative therapy in human pathology. Written by a clinician and a researcher, who are currently teaching what they are doing, it is recommended as a teaching tool along with an original textbook.

✏Stem Cells Book Summary : Recent advances in the fields of medicine and technology have led to the development of stem cell therapy. A stem cell is a cell that has the potential to develop into many different types of cell in the body. It has the ability to divide and copy itself and at least one other specialized type of cell. Stem Cells was written to provide information about the development of stem cell therapy, which can be used in the fields of research and medicine. The main goal of the book is to provide readers with an overview of the scientific facts about stem cells and its promising effects on the human body, as well as on the creation of new drugs and medicines. The book also highlights the ongoing clinical research into stem cells and lists the therapies whose effectiveness is being investigated. Many scientists argue that stem cell therapy will be of great help to patients and society if it is proven to be safe and effective. Explains in straightforward, non-specialist language the basic biology of stem cells and their applications in modern medicine and future therapy Includes extensive coverage of adult and embryonic stem cells both historically and in contemporary practice Richly illustrated to assist in understanding how research is done and the current hurdles to clinical practice
