📒Fish Ladders For Lower Monumental Dam Snake River Washington ✍ Louis Z. Perkins
✏Fish Ladders for Lower Monumental Dam Snake River Washington Book Summary : Facilities for passing fish upstream over Lower Monumental Dam include a powerhouse collection system and a 16-ft-wide fish ladder on both sides of the river. A straight, 35-pool section of fish ladder and a typical fishway entrance weir were reproduced in a 1:10-scale model. Performance of a pair of typical diffusion chambers was studied in a 1:8-scale model that included portions of the adjacent supply conduit and fish ladder. Fishway weirs of original design, with 5-ft-long overflow crests at each end of a 6-ft-long nonoverflow section, upstream fins, and 18- by 18-in. orifices on the floor, were satisfactory. Discharges of 66.0 and 69.7 cfs produced heads of 10.0 and 12.0 in. on the weirs. With standard orifices in all weirs, heads of 12.2 and 13.4 in. on the first weir below the fish counting station were required to provide the above discharges. (Modified author abstract).
📒Snakes And Ladders ✍ Dirk Bogarde
✏Snakes and Ladders Book Summary : First published in 1978, Snakes and Ladders is volume two of Dirk Bogarde's best-selling memoirs Snakes and Ladders follows Bogarde from the challenges of his army training camp at Catterick, through the horrors of war, to his glittering – if often trying – film career. We see the thoughtful boy finding his way alongside his fellow recruits, to emerge from the war a thoughtful man, shaped in many ways by his harrowing experiences. Somewhat falling into his career, Dirk struggled with the demands that such great success brings with it. With personal insight into his close friendship with Judy Garland, his working method with Visconti, and his many vital relationships with friends and family, Snakes and Ladders sheds an honest and not always flattering light on his life.

📒The Longest Day ✍ Cornelius Ryan
✏The Longest Day Book Summary : 6 June, 1944. 156,000 troops from 12 different countries, 11,000 aircraft, 7,000 naval vessels, 24 hours. D-Day - the beginning of the Allied invasion of Hitler's formidable 'Fortress Europe' - was the largest amphibious invasion in history. There has never been a battle like it, before or since. But beyond the statistics and over sixty years on, what is it about the events of D-Day that remain so compelling? The courage of the men who fought and died on the beaches of France? The sheer boldness of the invasion plan? Or the fact that this, Rommel's 'longest day', heralded the beginning of the end of World War II. One of the defining battles of the war, D-Day is scored into the imagination as the moment when the darkness of the Third Reich began to be swept away. This is the story of D-Day, told through the voices of over 1,000 survivors - from high-ranking Allied and German officers, to the paratroopers who landed in Normandy before dawn, the infantry who struggled ashore and the German troops who defended the coast. Cornelius Ryan captures the horror and the glory of D-Day, relating in emotive and compelling detail the years of inspired tactical planning that led up to the invasion, its epic implementation and every stroke of luck and individual act of heroism that would later define the battle. In the words of its author, The Longest Day is a story not of war, but of the courage of man.

📒The Treasure Hunt ✍ Andrea Camilleri
✏The Treasure Hunt Book Summary : The Treasure Hunt is the sixteenth gripping novel in Andrea Camilleri's bestselling Inspector Montalbano series. Montalbano opened the door to step out. But Gallo held him back, putting one hand on his arm. 'What's in there, Chief?' 'If it's what I think, it's something so horrific that it'll haunt your dreams for the rest of your life . . .' When a crazed elderly man and his sister begin firing bullets from their balcony down onto the Vigàta street below, Inspector Montalbano finds himself a reluctant television hero. A few days later, when a letter arrives containing a mysterious riddle, the Inspector becomes drawn into a perplexing treasure hunt set by an anonymous challenger. As the hunt intensifies, Montalbano is relieved to be offered the assistance of Arturo Pennisi, a young man eager to witness the detective's investigative skills first hand. Fending off meddling commissioners and his irate girlfriend, Livia, the inspector will follow the treasure hunt's clues and travel from Vigàta's teeming streets to its deserted outskirts: where an abandoned house overlooks a seemingly bottomless lake. But when a horrifying crime is committed, the game must surely be laid aside. And it isn't long before Montalbano himself will be in terrible danger . . . The Treasure Hunt is followed by the seventeenth Inspector Montalbano title, Angelica's Smile.
