📒Media Accountability And Freedom Of Publication ✍ Denis McQuail
✏Media Accountability and Freedom of Publication Book Summary : What are the media's responsibilities? To whom are they accountable? Are they increasingly growing out of control? In the twenty-first century, our mass media are becoming more powerful and more difficult to hold to account, and attempts at control to prevent harm or make media more responsible are often viewed as infringements of market and media freedom. In this stimulating new study, Denis McQuail identifies problematic trends and issues and outlines the principles underlying media regulation and accountability. In a wide-ranging discussion, which demonstrates that freedom and accountability are not incompatible, the book includes: a review of relevant theory of media and society; a statement of basic communication/publication values; an overview of the system of media governance; an assessment of media effects; a clarification of key concepts, especially accountability, responsibility, freedom, and publication; an analytic framework and a comparative assessment of the alternative means available for holding media to account.

📒Serial Publication In England Before 1750 ✍ R. M. Wiles
✏Serial Publication in England Before 1750 Book Summary : This 1957 text was the first thorough account of the serial publication of books in the eighteenth century. Professor Wiles shows how, first by serialization in newspapers and then by releasing instalments of a work in progress in small packets of sheets stitched in blue paper and delivered regularly to subscribers, English publishers made new and old books available to a great number of readers. It had not previously been realized how extensive the practice was. As a method of publishing it had important effects: because books could be sent out in instalments the high price of books sold was no longer a bar to the spread of literacy and useful knowledge. After explaining the growth of this method from the last years of the seventeenth century until 1750, Professor Wiles gives important chapters to related questions, such as the state of the law of copyright.
✏English as an Additional Language in Research Publication and Communication Book Summary : This book brings together a collection of selected empirical studies by researchers and English for Academic Purposes professionals working with scholars who use English as an additional language and who face barriers to publication when communicating the results of their research in the international context. The contributions have their origins in papers and workshops presented at the conference -Publishing and Presenting Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an Additional Language- (PRISEAL), which took place at the University of La Laguna (Spain) from 11 to 13 January 2007. The various issues which are addressed in this volume are grouped into three main themes: 1. Descriptive studies of linguistic and rhetorical features of written and spoken academic genres. 2. Contrastive studies of academic discourse with a focus on rhetorical preferences of members of scientific communities across cultures, disciplines and genres. 3. Studies which evaluate English for Academic Purposes courses and materials in terms of how successfully they develop the scholar's ability to communicate more effectively in English."
