✏Read My Hips Book Summary : “I feel twisted”, “I look crooked in the mirror”, “My problems have been going on for years”, “I have tried every kind of treatment” are commonly heard statements. Whether you have complaints or not, it’s time to look at your body alignment, given that the pelvis and spine are not properly aligned in 80% of us. Think of a car that has an alignment problem! The tires wear differently and the car may wiggle and wobble, eventually causing structural damage to the frame and steering mechanism. We are not so different. Unwanted stresses caused by malalignment can affect every part of your body. You may feel it, for example, as “low back pain”, a “bursitis”, “tight hamstrings”. This book starts by explaining how your pelvis and spine function when in alignment and what happens when things go wrong. It describes some easy ways to recognize and treat the three most common ways the pelvis goes out of alignment. Then it outlines the “malalignment syndrome” – the typical changes and complaints associated with malalignment that, unfortunately, often lead to unwarranted investigation, misdiagnosis, and inappropriate and sometimes harmful treatment. After discussing the impact on various sports, it provides a comprehensive treatment approach aimed at achieving and maintaining your alignment making use of appropriate complementary techniques and encouraging your regular participation to achieve lasting results.

✏Therapeutic Management of Incontinence and Pelvic Pain Book Summary : As medical knowledge advances we tend to compartmentalise our specialties into smaller units; but, hand in hand with this, there is a growing understanding between the different disciplines within the caring professions. Thus we are able to share our special skills to the benefit of patients. This book is an excellent example of the advantage of interdisciplinary communication and demonstrates a refreshing holistic approach to the problems of incontinence and pelvic pain. Written with physiotherapists in mind, the editors have invited contributions from many distinguished experts in their own field. These have been compiled into a comprehensive book, which will appeal to many healthcare professionals. I have had great pleasure in reading this book. During the time that I have been involved with 'pelvic dysfunction' there have been many exciting advances. These are all included in a most readable sequence, some presented with a refreshing new twist. In particular, I would like to bring to your attention the section on 'pelvic pain'. Because of our lack of understanding it has been a problem that is too often ignored and here at last are some practical ideas for therapeutic management. There is still much progress to be made in the field of incontinence and pelvic pain and as yet, no editors can be expected to produce a definitive work. However, I would like to recommend this book most strongly. It has a new approach to this topic, which is still a major problem for many people.

✏Pelvic Pain in Women An Issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics Book Summary : This issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America attempts to provide an overview of the more common causes of chronic pelvic pain in women. It brings together experts in various fields of gynecology, gastroenterology, physical therapy, and urogynecology in an attempt to discuss the wide variety of common clinical conditions that can manifest as pain. The intent is to enable the physician to consider not only the common gynecologic causes but also the common nongynecologic causes based on certain symptom profiles and targeted clinical examination. Should the physician not feel comfortable in treating the nongynecologic causes, it would enable them to target their referral to a more appropriate physician rather than the patient being referred back to a general primary care physician. It is our hope that it will enable the reader to see the pelvis not as an ovary or a uterus but as a whole system of interacting organs, muscles, and nerves. In addtiion, there is very little in the Obstetrics and Gynecology literature about the treatment of the pain component with opioid and nonopioid medications. As one of my colleagues frequently states, we can treat the pain but not necessarily alleviate the suffering. The overview of complementary and alternative medications and opioid use will hopefully be useful to the practicing physician as it provides an evidence-based approach to the use of these therapies specifically for chronic pelvic pain.
