✏Photosensitization and Photocatalysis Using Inorganic and Organometallic Compounds Book Summary : Photosensitization and photocatalysis refer to processes by which permanent chemical transformations are induced on substrates (organic/inorganic) by radiation to which the substrates themselves are transparent. Such transformations can be highly specific, very efficient, and occur under mild conditions. Herein lies the power of photochemical methods for possible applications in the field of conversion and storage of solar energy. This book provides a recent survey of the progress in this important area in catalysis, with an emphasis on inorganic complexes and organometallic compounds as the key light aborbers. The book is organized in three parts: fundamentals, followed by applications. Discussions cover a wide variety of photosensitized or photocatalyzed reactions: decomposition of water, reduction of CO2 and CO; spectral sensitization in photoelectrochemical cells; transformations (oxidation, reduction, isomerization, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, carbonylation, etc.) of organics such as alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, etc. In view of the variety of systems (sensitizers, substrates) and the topics covered, the volume is unique in the field of photochemistry and will appeal to academic and industrial researchers in various subdisciplines of chemistry, material science and catalysis.

✏Advances in Organometallic Chemistry Book Summary : This widely acclaimed serial contains authoritative reviews that address all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field which has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branchesof chemistry now interface with organometallic chemistry--the study of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species which are so reactive that they only have a transient existence at ambient temperatures to species which are thermally very stable. Organometallics are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both large and small scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals all depend on advancements in organometallic chemistry. In basic research, organometallics have contributed inter alia to: Metal cluster chemistry Surface chemistry The stabilization of highly reactive species by metal coordination Chiral synthesis The formulation of multiple bonds between carbon and the other elements and between the elements themselves

✏Luminescent Organometallic Nanomaterials with Aggregation Induced Emission Book Summary : ABSTRACT: Recent researches in metal nanoclusters (NCs) have prompted their promising practical applications in biomedical fields as novel inorganic luminophores. More recently, to further improve the photoluminescence (PL) performance of NCs, the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect has been introduced to develop highly luminescent metal NCs and metal complex materials. In this review, we start our discussion from recent progresses on AIE materials developments. Then, we address our understandings on the PL properties of thiolated metal NCs. Subsequently, we link thiolated metal NCs with AIE effect. We also highlight some recent advances in synthesizing the AIE-type metal complex nanomaterials. We finally discuss visions and directions for future development of AIE-type metal complex nanomaterials.

✏Organometallic Chemistry Book Summary : A series of critical reviews and perspectives focussing on specific aspects of organometallic chemistry interfacing with other fields of study are provided. For this volume, the critical reviews cover topics such as the activation of "inert" carbon-hydrogen bonds, ligand design and organometallic radical species. For example, Charlie O'Hara discusses how mixed-metal compounds may perform the highly selective activation of C-H bonds and, in particular, how synergic relationships between various metals are crucial to this approach. The chemistry of a remarkable series of air-stable chiral primary phosphine ligands is discussed in some depth by Rachel Hiney, Arne Ficks, Helge M ller-Bunz, Declan Gilheany and Lee Higham. This article focuses on the preparation of these ligands and also how they may be applied in various catalytic applications. Bas De Bruin reports on how ligand radical reactivity can be employed in synthetic organometallic chemistry and catalysis to achieve selectivity in radical-type transformations. As well as highlighting ligand-centered radical transformations in open-shell transition metals, an overview of the catalytic mechanism of Co(II)-catalysed olefin cyclopropanation is given, showing that enzyme-like cooperative metal-ligand-radical reactivity is no longer limited to real enzymes. Valuable and informative comprehensive reviews in the field of organometallic chemistry are also covered in this volume. For example, organolithium and organocuprate chemistry are reviewed by Joanna Haywood and Andrew Wheatley; aspects in Group 2 (Be-Ba) and Group 12 (Zn-Hg) compounds by Robert Less, Rebecca Melen and Dominic Wright; metal clusters by Mark Humphrey and Marie Cifuentes; and recent developments in the chemistry of the elements of Group 14 - focusing on low-coordination number compounds by Richard Layfield. This volume therefore covers many synthetic and applied aspects of modern organometallic chemistry which ought to be of interest to inorganic, organic and applied catalysis fields."

✏Focus on Organometallic Chemistry Research Book Summary : Organometallic chemistry is based on the reactions and use of a class of compounds (R-M) that contain a covalent bond between carbon and metal. They are prepared either by direct reaction of the metal with an organic compound or by replacement of a metal from another organometallic substance. Research in organometallic chemistry is also conducted in the areas of cluster synthesis, main-group derivatives in unusual oxidation states, organometallic polymers, unstable organometallic compounds and intermediates in matrices, structure determination of organometallic compounds in the solid state [X-ray diffraction] and gaseous states [electron diffraction], and mechanisms of reactions of transient silylenes and related species. In addition to the traditional metals and semimetals, elements such as selenium, lithium and magnesium are considered to form organometallic compounds, e.g. organomagnesium compounds MeMgI, iodo(methyl)magnesium and diethylmagnesium which are Grignard reagents an organo-lithium compound BuLi butyllithium. Organometallic compounds often find practical use as catalysts, the processing of petroleum products and the production of organic polymers.

✏Organometallic Chemistry Book Summary : Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

✏Deep UV Laser Stimulated Organometallic Vapor Phase Epitaxy Book Summary : Laser selective organometallic vapor phase epitaxy is a promising technique for in situ, submicron, selective area growth of III-V semiconductors. Despite intensive research in the past, some fundamental questions regarding the underlying mechanisms remained unanswered. By operating at laser wavelengths around 250 nm with both pulsed and cw sources, this thesis work was set out to resolve these issues and to develop the laser selective growth technique further towards application. Investigations of AlGaAs growth in the kinetically limited regime, where any laser stimulated growth needs to be conducted, found that the formation of the trimethylaluminum-arsine adduct plays a vital role during growth at low V/III ratios. Furthermore, these experiments reveal that the generation of bandtail states influences the bandgap of unintentionally carbon doped AlGaAs to equal extent as compressive strain introduced by the inclusion of carbon in the crystal lattice. The growth of AlGaAs stimulated with a pulsed laser source, which is tunable around 250 nm wavelength, reveals that a minimum photon energy of 4.91 eV is required for any significant growth enhancement to occur. Photolysis of the chemisorbed adlayer is conclusively shown to constitute the dominant stimulation mechanism under pulsed laser excitation. Direct comparison with cw laser stimulated growth in the same wavelength range reveals reaction catalysis via surface recombination of photogenerated carriers to dominate under cw irradiation conditions. These findings consolidate previous results, which appeared contradictory. Laser-induced periodic surface structures are observed for the first time during cw laser enhanced growth of semiconductors. Their evolution is shown to be governed by a positive feedback mechanism, which depends equally on growth and laser parameters at the very onset of deposition. The different growth modes are explained as a nonlinear dynamic system with delayed feedback, consistent with a surface-scattered wave model. In developing the laser stimulated growth technique towards application, the first laser selective area growth of optically active InAs quantum dots is demonstrated. Furthermore, a two-dimensional optical projection technique for the parallel laser selective growth in multiple locations is presented along with a feasibility demonstration of shaping these growth spots into flat-top mesas.
