✏Omega 6 omega 3 Essential Fatty Acid Ratio Book Summary : Studies on the evolutionary aspects of diet and molecular studies included in this volume indicate that human beings evolved on a diet that was balanced in the essential fatty acids (EFA). In fact, the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 EFA was 1/1 whereas present day diets in both developed and developing countries have a much higher ratio, between 5/1 and 50/1. Additional studies show that a high ratio of omega-6/omega-3 EFA is detrimental to health and may lead to the development of chronic diseases. Improving the dietary ratio by decreasing the omega-6 fatty acids and increasing the omega-3 fatty acids is essential for brain function and for the management of cardiovascular disease, arthritis and cancer. A ratio of 4/1 or less leads to lower dosage and to the reduction of adverse effects of drugs. This volume should be of interest to a large and varied audience of researchers in academia, industry, and government; cardiologists, geneticists, immunologists, neuroscientists, and cancer specialists; as well as nutritionists, dietitians, food scientists, agriculturists, economists and regulators.

✏The Omega 3 Connection Book Summary : THE OMEGA-3 CONNECTION is a persuasive title on why our ancestors relied so much on omega 3 oils, found in oily fish, flaxseed, game, human breast milk and walnuts, for their brain development and general health. We eat far far less omega 3's than our ancestors did, and here, Andrew L. Stoll, M.D. argues that most of us have been deficient in these essential oils from babies onwards, especially if we weren't breastfed. Omega 3's are vital to overall health of the brain and heart. The results are the maladies of our age - depression, post natal depression, an increase in degenerative diseases of the mind like Altzheimers, and an increase in heart attacks and strokes. Backed up by new research from the Universities of Sheffield and Oxford, this is a fantastic pointer to restoring your body and mind's natural balance.

✏Omega 3 Fatty Acids the Brain and Retina Book Summary : Research on omega-3 fatty acids has come a long way since its beginnings in the middle 70's. Starting with studies on the role of omega-3 fatty acids in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, interest soon turned to the mechanisms of and the need to balance the omega-6 to the omega-3 ratio for homeostasis and normal development. Today, it is widely accepted that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid are essential for brain development during pregnancy, lactation and throughout the life cycle. It is also no longer controversial that DHA can affect brain function, mental health and behavior, and studies on supplemental DHA in age-related macular degeneration have revealed significant Interactions between DHA and genetic variants. Featuring contributions by leading scientists in the field, this publication discusses not only the role of omega-3 fatty acids in maintaining homeostasis, but also their importance in the prevention and management of neurodegenerative diseases associated with the aging process or genetic predisposition. It is thus not only of interest to nutritionists, dieticians or policy makers, but also to psychologists, physiologists, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, ophthalmologists, geneticists, neurologists, pedlatrlclans, obstetricians and geriatricians.

✏Cardiovascular Benefits of Omega 3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Book Summary : During the last decades progress has been made in the treatment of patients who survived myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, patients who survive an acute myocardial infarction are at high risk, with life expectancy half that of their peers who have not experienced similar events, and with increased risk for subsequent cardiovascular events and death. The risk of sudden death increases with severity of systolic dysfunction after myocardial infarction. In recent years, it has become clear that in addition to risk factors such as overweight, lack of exercise, smoking, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, psychosocial factors play a key role for prognosis in patients with myocardial infarction. Therefore, there is high medical need for drugs which lower the incidence of sudden death and have an effect on other risk factors such as depression. OMACOR®, a pharmaceutical preparation of highly purified and concentrated Ω-3 polyunsaturated acids, may present such a drug. It lowers the incidence of sudden death in patients with myocardial infarction and decreases depression. This publication focuses on the effect of Ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on different risk factors in patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition, aspects of prevention of cardiovascular disease, risk factors and pharmacokinetics of Ω-3 fatty acids ethyl esters are considered.

✏Omega Book Summary : Omega, written by astronomer Camille Flammarion (1842?1925), is no less than an epic history of our future?a startling and unforgettable vision of the end of the world. Reasoned scientific speculation combined with probing philosophical inquiry lend credibility and magnitude to this tale of how humankind will physically and culturally evolve over the next several million years. ø The end begins in the twenty-fifth century, when a comet threatens to collide with the earth. The consequences of that frightening cosmic event are far-reaching, setting in motion a series of physical, psychic, and social changes that will profoundly affect the planet and its people far into the future. The earth?s surface drastically transforms over time. Cultures radically alter, collapse, and fade away. Nations rise and fall, species become extinct, and human beings find themselves at the end of the world, alone and changed in fundamental ways. This melancholic, poetic science fiction tale of things to come is as compelling and disturbing today as when it was first written.

✏A Balanced Omega 6 omega 3 Fatty Acid Ratio Cholesterol and Coronary Heart Disease Book Summary : For more than half a century, the relationship between dietary factors and coronary heart disease (CHD) has been a major focus of health research. Contrary to the established view, current data suggest that dietary cholesterol is not a primary factor of or causes heart disease with the possible exception of the genetic forms of familial hypercholesterolemias. For instance, recent clinical trials evaluating the effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs on the development of chronic heart failure, diabetes and stroke have yielded disappointing results. On the other hand, an unbalanced omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio and a cholesterol intake not consistent with the amount during evolution seem to be causal factors in the development of CHD. A panel of international experts in genetics, nutrition, fatty acid, cholesterol, metabolism and coronary heart disease has contributed to this publication, summarizing and critically discussing for the first time the importance of evolutionary aspects of diet, the omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio and cholesterol intake relative to health and CHD. They also propose measuring blood fatty acids in the population in order to define the risk of CHD and other chronic diseases. This book will be of interest to physicians (cardiologists, gerontologists, and pediatricians), nutritionists, dieticians, health care providers, scientists in industry and government and policy makers.

✏Dietary Omega 3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Cancer Book Summary : Dietary Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Cancer provides all the latest information on the possible benefits of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) against a wide series of cancers. Several influential scientists in this field have contributed to make this book unique amongst the others published so far in this field. The chapters give detailed information about the results obtained in this field through experimental studies conducted on both animals and cultured cells, as well as through human intervention trials and epidemiological observational studies. This book represents an important tool for researchers working in nutrition and oncology, since it collects all the knowledge about omega-3 PUFAs and cancer, even the most recent, in a single publication. For the first time controversies among the different studies are also covered with great detail in this book. The book enables physicians to clearly understand on a scientific basis if their oncologic patients or patients at risk of cancer could actually benefit from a diet enriched in omega-3 PUFAs or from a dietary supplementation with these fatty acids. The book represents also a good resource for ordinary individuals as well as cancer patients to learn more about omega-3 PUFAs and understand how these dietary components may affect cancer growth.

✏Omega Book Summary : Omega: an apocalyptic rumour from the Eastern Front. Omega: something that will alter all the strategic calculations of the Earth's great military blocs. Omega: the code name for a weapon that may well bring doomsday with it. But if Omega is indeed the agent that will destroy the world, that world is not our own. For this is a timeline in which World War Two never truly ended: a timeline in which Hitler died in a plane crash, Britain joined Germany in its battle against Communist Russia, and the present is an age of intermittent, but deadly, armed conflict between the USSR, the European Alliance, and the USA. The frontier regions are radioactive wastelands, nuclear winter threatens catastrophe, global confrontation could erupt again any time - and that's before Omega is taken into account...This is the reality experienced by Owen Meredith when an accident forces his consciousness from the England we know into the mind of his cognate self in that other darker, Europe. Switching back and forth between being plain Owen Meredith and troubled Major Owain Maredudd, Owen is faced not only with a Cold War going Hot, but with a deep crisis of identity. Who is he? Whose twisted destiny is he treading? Did the ordinary domestic life he remembers ever even take place? Perhaps the universe of Owain and Omega is merely a symptom of mental illness - but if so, why is it so urgently tangible?

✏OmeGA Book Summary : OmeGA: A Competent Genetic Algorithm for Solving Permutation and Scheduling Problems addresses two increasingly important areas in GA implementation and practice. OmeGA, or the ordering messy genetic algorithm, combines some of the latest in competent GA technology to solve scheduling and other permutation problems. Competent GAs are those designed for principled solutions of hard problems, quickly, reliably, and accurately. Permutation and scheduling problems are difficult combinatorial optimization problems with commercial import across a variety of industries. This book approaches both subjects systematically and clearly. The first part of the book presents the clearest description of messy GAs written to date along with an innovative adaptation of the method to ordering problems. The second part of the book investigates the algorithm on boundedly difficult test functions, showing principled scale up as problems become harder and longer. Finally, the book applies the algorithm to a test function drawn from the literature of scheduling.

✏Omega Generation Book Summary : The apostolic generation of the 21st century is an omega generation. They live at the end of God's purpose and work their way back to their current earthly position. They live at the omega dimension before and during the execution of God's purpose in the natural realm. The omega dimension is their dwelling place and they call it home. They live in the heavens while functioning in the earth. Their sight has been elevated and their spirit catapulted and established in eternity. They have nailed their spirit and mind to the omega of the purposes of God while physically performing and outworking them in the natural. As far as they are concerned, what they are doing for God in the earth is a done deal, and they draw their strength from this mentality, truth and understanding. They are not running towards an uncertain future, but from the future, they move swiftly to the present. From the omega they alpha the purpose of the Father powerfully on earth, bringing them to an ultimate finish within divinely prescribed time. While many start and are unsure about finishing, this generation finish before they start. They are a generation that lives at the end.

✏The Effects of Omega 3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on Cardiac Rhythm Antiarrhythmic Proarrhythmic Both or Neither Book Summary : The cardiovascular benefits of dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) have been actively investigated for nearly 40 years. Beginning with the pioneering studies of Bang and Dyerberg, epidemiological data provide strong evidence for an inverse relationship between fatty fish consumption and cardiac mortality. In contrast to these observational studies, interventional studies using n-3 PUFAs for the secondary prevention of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with heart disease have yielded conflicting results; some studies have reported reduced sudden cardiac death or mortality, while other more recent studies have reported either no effect or an increase in adverse cardiac events. Nevertheless, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology continue to recommend fish oils for the secondary prevention of coronary artery disease. Based in part upon these recommendations, consumer demand for n-3 PUFA products (both nutritional supplements and foods enriched with these lipids) has exploded. In the United States alone, it has been estimated that in 2004, 5-10% of the adult U.S. population were taking a fish oil supplement, with annual sales growth of 40%. In fact, the sales of these products are projected to exceed 7 billion dollars by the end of 2011 (www.marketresearch.com, product reports). Despite the extensive marketing of fish oil products, a scientific consensus on the effects of n-3 PUFA on cardiac rhythm has yet to be reached. It is the purpose of this Research Topic to stimulate a discussion on the putative benefits of n-3 PUFAs on cardiac rhythm. Authors are invited to submit clinical, translational, or experimental research articles, reviews, and hypotheses that address the actions of n-3 PUFA (positive, negative, or neutral) on cardiac rhythm and cardiac electrophysiology. Studies that evaluate the effects of n-3 PUFA on myocyte electrical properties, atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, and heart rate variability are particularly welcome.

✏Food Enrichment with Omega 3 Fatty Acids Book Summary : Omega-3 fatty acids provide many health benefits, from reducing cardiovascular disease to improving mental health, and consumer interest in foods enriched with omega-3 fatty acids is increasing. Formulating a product enriched with these fatty acids that is stable and has an acceptable flavour is challenging. Food enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids provides an overview of key topics in this area. Part one, an introductory section, reviews sources of omega-3 fatty acids and their health benefits. Chapters in part two explore the stabilisation of both fish oil itself and foods enriched with omega-3 fatty acids. Part three focuses on the fortification of different types of foods and beverages with omega-3 fatty acids, including meat products, by the modification of animal diets and other methods, infant formula and baked goods. Finally, part four highlights new directions in the field and discusses algal oil as a source of omega-3 fatty acids and labelling and claims in foods containing omega-3 fatty acids. Food enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids is a standard reference for professionals in the functional foods industry involved with research, development and quality assessment and for researchers in academia interested in food lipids, oxidation and functional foods.
