✏Matthew 8 18 Book Summary : For over one hundred years, the International Critical Commentary series has held a special place among works on the Bible. It has sought to bring together all the relevant aids to exegesis — linguistic and textual no less than archaeological, historical, literary and theological—with a level of comprehension and quality of scholarship unmatched by any other series. No attempt has been made to secure a uniform theological or critical approach to the biblical text: contributors have been invited for their scholarly distinction, not for their adherence to any one school of thought. The first paperback editions to be published cover the heart of the New Testament, providing a wealth of information and research in accessible and attractive format.

It is with sensitivity to this perspective that Father Harrington undertakes this commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. After an introduction, he provides a literal translation of each section in Matthew's Gospel and explains the textual problems, philological difficulties, and other matters in the notes. He then presents a literary analysis of each text (content, form, use of sources, structure). Bibliographies direct the reader to other important modern studies.?This resource is very valuable in reading and understanding the Gospel of Matthew.? Saint Mary?s Press? This is a balanced, well-informed, centrist commentary, with which the reviewer usually agrees and which he can heartily recommend.? Revue Biblique

✏Studies in Matthew Book Summary : Translated by Rosemary Selle The work of one of the world's foremost New Testament scholars, Ulrich Luz, this book gathers eighteen penetrating studies of Matthew's Gospel, available here in English for the first time. Luz's groundbreaking work ranges widely over the critical issues of Matthean studies, including the narrative structure and sources of the Gospel and its presentation of such themes as christology, discipleship, miracles, and Israel. Several chapters also outline and demonstrate the hermeneutical methods underlying Luz's acclaimed commentary on Matthew, for which this book can serve as a companion. Luz is particularly conscious of the Gospel's reception history, a history of interpretation connecting us with the past that determines so many of our questions, categories, and values. Studies in Matthew thus constitutes a noteworthy contribution to biblical hermeneutics as well as to exegesis.

✏The Gospel of Matthew Book Summary : From ancient times the Gospel of Matthew has been regarded as the "church Gospel" its aims are preeminently catechetical, pastoral, and missionary. But recent research raises many questionsregarding Matthew's creation, theological intentions, and shapingfor the circle of its first recipients. This highly original commentary by Rudolf Schnackenburgfollows Matthew chapter by chapter and verse by verse, carefullyexplaining and interpreting the text against both its primitive andcurrent horizons. Schnackenburg sees Matthew's purpose as simply"the proclamation of Christian salvation." His commentary givesextra attention to the great discourses of Jesus found in Matthew(such as the Sermon on the Mount), showing how Jesus' wordsand works have special currency for the self-understanding of thechurch and for the task of Christian living today.Written by a master exegete with a pastor's sensitivity, thiscommentary will fast become a classic study of Matthew's Gospel.

✏Quiet Time Poems Book Summary : Every day, there are treasures to be discovered by anyone who will honestly come to hear the voice of the Savior in his Word. The Lord Jesus indicates that there is an added blessing for those who will write down the insights he gives by his instruction: Every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old (Matthew 13:52). The poems in this book are the result of going to the Bible each day with an expectation that God has something very valuable to say. That expectation has NEVER been disappointed. Our risen Lord said, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will sup with him, and he with Me (Revelation 3:20). This intimate, two-way communion with God is offered to all those who have received the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12) and thereby have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God (1 Corinthians 2:12). My prayer is that God may use this book for his glory, for the encouragement of his own children, and for the persuasion of those who may yet be awakened to their need of our Savior. Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the post of My doors (Proverbs 8:34). Heaven is waiting. Dont miss it for the world.

✏All the Parables of Jesus Book Summary : Like yeast, parables are explosive stories of Jesus that invade our lives and transform us into citizens of the kingdom of God. But they are also cryptic, and thats where this book is useful. More than an explanation or interpretation of each parable, this definitive work is primarily an exercise in hermeneutics. In it, readers are taken through a process of discovering which sayings of Jesus are parables, problematic questions related to counting and categorizing them, and Jesus rationale for speaking in parables. The work then analyzes four distinct ways that parables are structured and three levels at which they do their work in us. The final chapter presents parable-related hermeneutical guidelines, and the book ends with seven extensive Appendices and two Indexes. It is a must read for every biblical scholar!

✏Try the Healing Tongue of Almighty God Book Summary : The tongue is a very powerful instrument. Humans brandish the tongue, as if it is an instrument created by them. God owns the tongue, even the tongue that you have. Listen to Proverbs chapter eighteen, and verse twenty –one “Death and life are in the power of the tongue..” The children of Israel spoke against Moses, their spiritual authority; they spoke against God, their creator. This is what the tongue can do. This should not be so. First God’s tongue will cleanse, according to this book, and then it will cause deliverance through the cleansing, and lastly heal whatever situation someone finds himself. It is a book of healing if properly utilized.

✏Bear Your Cross Wear Your Crown Book Summary : I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior on January I3, 1986. Since that life-changing day, I have heard, read about and observed many spiritual struggles in Christians lives, including Christian leaders, such as pastors, evangelists. missionaries, deacons, teachers, elders, administrators, and bishops. I feel strongly in my spirit that many are grieving the Holy Spirit in more ways than one, and I am no exception. The list of how we are grieving the Spirit is exhaustive; however, I will mention some key areas where we have been failing consistently: 1. Not loving God as we ought 2. Not fearing God as we ought 3. Turning God into a God of Convenience 4. Not reading the Word (Bible) daily 5. Failing to pray for self and others 6. Breaking promises 7. Not tithing regularly 8. Being a false witness 9. Choosing to be selfish and self-centered 10. Not being thankful and not showing appreciation I I. Taking God and others for granted 12. Presenting ourselves as holy and righteous 13. Judging others constantly 14. Entertaining and encouraging gossip 15. Not practicing humility The Holy Spirit inspired me to write this book first to myself as an eye-opening experience. Yet, I realize I am not the only one dealing with the issues mentioned above. Millions of people may be experiencing the same things I have been facing. Therefore, let us learn to be patient, kind, tolerant, and understanding of one another, and instead of judging one another in an ungodly manner, let us learn to appreciate, respect, and accept each other, despite our disagreements and differences. With that in mind, consider the following Scripture Verse from the New Testament: "And do nor grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption" (Ephesians 4:30). Thank You and God Bless.

✏Unholy Hands on the Bible Book Summary : This is an examination of six major new versions, the New International Version, (NIV); New American Standard Bible, (NASB); New Revised Standard Version, (NRSV); Revised English Bible, (REB); Good News Bible, (GNB); and the New American Bible, (NAB). It includes: 1) The textual basis of the above new versions; 2) 379 New Testament verses in which the above new versions are compared with the Greek of the Received Text, and the weak evidence that is back of their adulterations; 3) a 200-page examination of the New International Version (NIV) shows that they have added over 100,000 of their own words, and have failed to translate over 20,000 of the original words; 4) a separate examination of the New American Standard Bible (NASB). There are 8 appendices, including a thorough critique of Kurt Aland's Text of the New Testament. Get acquainted with the facts, for God is going to look to you to warn his people that these new versions are adulterated with many of the heresies of the Gnostics and others. Also, since they all contain contradictions within themselves, and also contradict one another, love for your fellow saints should require you to let them know that the words they are reading are not all God's words. Jay P. ✏Playing with Dragons Book Summary : There be dragons all over the Bible. From the great sea monsters of Genesis to the great dragon of Revelation, dragons appear as the Bible opens and closes, and they pop their grisly heads up at various junctures in between. How did they get there and what on earth (or indeed in heaven) are they doing there? This is a book for those who find standard discussions of faith and suffering frustrating. Andy Angel opens up the rich biblical tradition of living with God in the midst of suffering. He takes the reader on a journey of exploration through biblical texts that are often overlooked on account of their strangeness--texts about dragons. He shows how these peculiar passages open up a language of prayer through suffering in which people share their anger, weariness, disillusionment, and even joy in suffering with God. Angel explores how such weird Scriptures open up a whole new way of praying and reveal a God who approves of honest spirituality, a spirituality that the Bible holds open but too many of its interpreters do not.
