✏Macroeconomics of Climate Change in a Dualistic Economy Book Summary : Macroeconomics of Climate Change in a Dualistic Economy: A Regional General Equilibrium Analysis generates significant, genuinely novel insights about dual economies and sustainable economic growth. These insights are generalize-able and applicable worldwide. The authors overcome existing limitations in general equilibrium modeling. By concentrating on tensions between green growth and dualism, they consider the global efforts against climate change and opposition by specific countries based on economic development needs. Using Turkey as their primary example, they address these two most discussed and difficult issues related to policy setting, blazing a path for those seeking an applied economic research framework to study such economic considerations. Couples a CGE climate change mitigation policy analysis with a dual economy approach Presents methods to model and assess policy instruments for mitigating climate change Provides data sets and models on a freely-accessible companion website Offers a path for those seeking an applied economic research framework to study economic considerations

✏Institutions Macroeconomics and the Global Economy Book Summary : All managers face a business environment where international and macroeconomic phenomena matter. Understanding the genesis of financial and currency crises, stock market booms and busts, and social and labor unrest is a crucial aspect in making informed managerial decisions. Adverse macroeconomic phenomena can have a catastrophic impact on firm performance — witness the strong companies destroyed by the Mexican tequila crisis. Yet, at the same time, such episodes also create business opportunities — and not just for the hedge funds and speculators that profit from them. Managers that have and use a coherent framework for analyzing these phenomena will enjoy a competitive advantage. This book presents a series of case studies taught in the Harvard Business School course “Institutions, Macroeconomics, and the Global Economy.” The course addresses the opportunities created by the emergence of a global economy and proposes strategies for managing the risks that globalization entails. A complimentary copy of the Instructor's Manual is available for all instructors who adopt this book as a course text. ✏A Macroeconomic Regime for the 21st Century Book Summary : The book aims to give non-economists a detailed understanding of how macroeconomic policy works in modern economies, and the issues it faces. The world has recently been through a huge economic crisis and thinking people everywhere have reason to wonder whether something is not seriously wrong with the policy regimes underlying these dramatic events in the major economies, and whether changes should be made. The author reviews the history of the successive regimes tried and found wanting in the second half of the last century and proposes a set of reforms designed to convert the flawed neo-liberal consensus of the 1990s into a durable regime for the present century.

✏Twenty first Century Macroeconomics Book Summary : The likely economic effects of climate change and the cost of action to avert it are important public policy issues, but according to the editors, they also raise fundamental questions about economic analysis and move issues of environmental policy from the microeconomic to the macroeconomic level. They therefore present 13 papers addressing the connections between climate change and macroeconomics. Opening chapters address fundamental issues of the likely global economic impact of climate change, the debate over the economics of climate change as presented in a special 2006 issue of the Stern Review that was commissioned by the government of the UK, the place of the climate change debate in the context of broader issues of equitable and sustainable development, and a proposed system for allocating carbon emissions reduction requirements. The next four chapters present macroeconomic theory perspectives that address issues of energy productivity, labor productivity, sustainable development, consumption, and investment. Remaining contributions explore policy options, including the new European emissions trading scheme.

✏Macroeconomics in the Global Economy Book Summary : This textbook is written for the core intermediate macroeconomics course which forms an essential part of all economics degrees. The authors reflect the continually changing debate in macroeconomics by stressing the great variety of possible macroeconomic outcomes, rather than a single theory. More importantly the book reflects a new revolution in macroeconomics that an open economy approach is essential to the study of the subject. The previously ascendant closed economy approaches have ignored the fact that, for many countries, trade and capital flows between countries are a dominant, if not the dominant influence on the national economy.

✏The Macroeconomics of Developing Countries Book Summary : "The book focuses on the short- and long-term macroeconomic challenges faced by developing countries characterized by missing, incomplete and dualistic markets and weak institutions. Such problems affect long-term growth, short-term macroeconomic equilibrium, employment and inequality far more than in the advanced economies. A central message of the book is that ignoring these features and applying to developing countries models inspired by the reality of advanced economies may lead to wrong conclusions and policies. These challenges are discussed for a number of architypes of developing economies dependent on land and natural resources, affected by supply rigidities in agriculture, and featuring dualistic markets, a dominant informal sector, fast population growth, and chronic dependence on the export of commodities and a volatile external finance. Finally, the book discusses the impact on growth, inequality and poverty of the stabilization and structural adjustment reforms that were increasingly implemented during the last 30 years. These issues have acquired center stage after the launch of the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals initiatives that have not spelled out a clear macroeconomic approach. There is a risk therefore that wrong policies and sudden shocks may derail the progress towards the SDGs achieved by means of social policies"--

✏Workers Institutions and Economic Growth in Asia Book Summary : In trying to understand rapid economic growth in East Asia, economists have been paying increasing attention to social institutions. Among these, labour institutions, such as wage systems, trade unions or labour market segmentation, are vital in determining both economic success and failure, and the ways the burdens of success and the burdens of failure are shared. This book provides new evidence on these issues.

✏Towards a Better Global Economy Book Summary : Substantial progress in the fight against extreme poverty was made in the last two decades. But the slowdown in global economic growth and significant increases in income inequality in many developed and developing countries raise serious concerns about the continuation of this trend into the 21st century. The time has come to seriously think about how improvements in official global governance, coupled with and reinforced by rising activism of 'global citizens' can lead to welfare-enhancing and more equitable results for global citizens through better national and international policies. This book examines the factors that are most likely to facilitate the process of beneficial economic growth in low-, middle-, and high-income countries. It examines past, present, and future economic growth; demographic changes; the hyperglobalization of trade; the effect of finance on growth; climate change and resource depletion; and the sense of global citizenship and the need for global governance in order to draw longer-term implications, identify policy options for improving the lives of average citizens around the world, and make the case for the need to confront new challenges with truly global policy responses. The book documents how demographic changes, convergence, and competition are likely to bring about massive shifts in the sectoral and geographical composition of global output and employment, as the center of gravity of the global economy moves toward Asia and emerging economies elsewhere. It shows that the legacies of the 2008-09 crisis-high unemployment levels, massive excess capacities, and high debt levels-are likely to reduce the standard of living of millions of people in many countries over a long period of adjustment and that fluctuations in international trade, financial markets, and commodity prices, as well as the tendency of institutions at both the national and international level to favor the interests of the better-off and more powerful pose substantial risks for citizens of all countries. The chapters and their policy implications are intended to stimulate public interest and facilitate the exchange of ideas and policy dialogue.
