✏Alternative Energy Sources Book Summary : Alternative Energy Sources is designed to give the reader, a clear view of the role each form of alternative energy may play in supplying the energy needs of the human society in the near future (20-50 years). The two first chapters on "energy demand and supply" and "environmental effects," set the tone as to why alternative energy is essential for the future. The third chapter gives the laws of energy conversion processes, as well as the limitations of converting one energy form to another. The section on exergy gives a quantitative background on the capability/potential of each energy source to produce power. The fourth, fifth and sixth chapters are expositions of fission and fusion nuclear energy, the power plants that may produce power from these sources and the issues that will frame the public debate on nuclear energy. The following five chapters include descriptions of the most common renewable energy sources (wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydroelectric) some of the less common sources (e.g. tidal and wave energy). The emphasis of these chapters will be on the global potential of each source, the engineering/technical systems that are used in harnessing the potential of each source, the technological developments that will contribute to wider utilization of the sources and environmental effects associated with their wider use. The last three chapters are: "energy storage," which will become an important issue if renewable energy sources are used widely. The fourteen chapters in the book have been chosen so that one may fit a semester University course around this book. At the end of every chapter, there are 10-20 problems and 1-3 suggestions of semester projects that may be assigned to students for further research.

✏Renewable Energy Sources Book Summary : In recent years African countries have taken great strides in their response to the demand for reliable contractual and institutional forms of doing business and for high-quality dispute resolution mechanisms. Modern international arbitration has taken root, with certain countries actively embracing modern harmonized arbitral practice, and others in the process of change and development. This unprecedented volume assembles for the first time a country-by-country analysis – both practical and insightful – of how arbitration is conducted in 46 African countries, providing essential information about legislative provisions, treaty adherence, and arbitral procedure. Contributors include current and former judges, distinguished practitioners, academics, and institution-builders, all of whom are active in promoting the use of arbitration as a viable means of dispute resolution in Africa. Five sections representing the main regions of the continent, each with a substantive introductory chapter covering the major trends within that region, offer country overviews addressing issues such as the following: ; adherence to the key arbitration conventions; the modernity of a State’s arbitration legislation and its compatibility with the UNCITRAL Model Law; particular features of arbitral practice in that jurisdiction; access to and (where available) statistics from local and regional arbitral institutions; significant arbitration-related national case law; and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. A sixth section focuses on Africa-based investor-State arbitration, providing an empirical analysis of the experience and record of African States with investment treaties and investor-State arbitration. Useful tables of intra-African bilateral investment treaties, a list of ICSID proceedings involving African States, and other tabular features round out the volume. The book will be welcomed by arbitration practitioners and legal academics everywhere as the essential guiding light in what is rapidly becoming a crucially important area of international arbitration practice.

✏Energy Resources and Systems Book Summary : In the lifetimes of the authors, the world and especially the United States have received three significant “wake-up calls” on energy production and consumption. The first of these occurred on October 15, 1973 when the Yom Kippur War began with an attack by Syria and Egypt on Israel. The United States and many western countries supported Israel. Because of the western support of Israel, several Arab oil exporting nations imposed an oil embargo on the west. These nations withheld five million barrels of oil per day. Other countries made up about one million barrels of oil per day but the net loss of four million barrels of oil production per day extended through March of 1974. This represented 7% of the free world’s (i. e. , excluding the USSR) oil production. In 1972 the price of crude oil was about $3. 00 per barrel and by the end of 1974 the price of oil had risen by a factor of 4 to over $12. 00. This resulted in one of the worst recessions in the post World War II era. As a result, there was a movement in the United States to become energy independent. At that time the United States imported about one third of its oil (about five million barrels per day). After the embargo was lifted, the world chose to ignore the “wake-up call” and went on with business as usual.

✏Alternative Energy Sources Book Summary : Alternative Energy Sources, Part B contains the proceedings of the Alternative Energy Sources Symposium of the International Symposium Series of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, held in Kuwait in February 1980. The symposium provided a forum for discussing alternative energy sources and for reviewing and assessing those technologies that complement and will most likely replace oil and gas extracted by conventional techniques. Comprised of seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the state of the art in nuclear fission power plants, along with the basics of nuclear fission and energy derived from nuclear reactions. The discussion then turns to fusion power and its prospects; the state of the art of energy storage systems used by electric utilities for peak shaving; and the outlook for transportation and energy through 2000. The next chapter focuses on the shortcomings of techniques that are typically used for the comparative evaluation of energy projects and suggests improvements, based on a present value approach, which allow for a more meaningful comparison. Mathematical techniques for the analysis of capital ventures are also described, with special reference to investments in the field of energy. The final chapter sets into context the mechanics of Third World development and the role of alternative energy systems in that process. This monograph will be of interest to researchers in the energy field as well as energy policymakers.

✏Alternative Energy Sources Book Summary : Affordable, abundant energy resources are a necessary ingredient for a modern society. Alternative energy sources have become a topic for discussion in recent times. Questions frequently heard are what types of energy will we need in the future and what will be our future energy sources? As civilization, moves forward into the Twenty-first Century many scientists search for an alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels. Environmentally concerned people are currently exploring many different types of energy including solar, wind and biomass. Many of these energy sources will require much different methods of production. Energy choices include much more than these do, though. Algae, nuclear, fuel cells, hydrogen and many others are also under consideration. These types of energy solve many problems, but have problems of their own. Most of these energy options are not as “green” as we might think and all have many advantages as well as disadvantages. We should step back, look at the choices, and weigh these pros and cons before stepping forward. It is probable that no one energy source will serve all our needs. In the future humankind may find many different kinds of energy sources to serve our society. alternative energy, alternative energy for home, alternative energy sources, types of energy, energy systems, energy production, future energy
