✏Encapsulation Technologies for Electronic Applications Book Summary : Electronics are used in a wide range of applications including computing, communication, biomedical, automotive, military and aerospace. They must operate in varying temperature and humidity environments including indoor controlled conditions and outdoor climate changes. Moisture, ionic contamination, heat, radiation and mechanical stresses are all highly detrimental to electronic devices and can lead to device failures. Therefore, it is essential that the electronic devices be packaged for protection from their intended environments, as well as to provide handling, assembly, electrical and thermal considerations. Currently, more than 99% of microelectronic devices are plastic encapsulated. Improvements in encapsulant materials, and cost incentives have stretched the application boundaries for plastic electronic packages. Many electronic applications that traditionally used hermetic packages such as military are now using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) plastic packages. Plastic encapsulation has the advantages of low cost, smaller form factors, and improved manufacturability. With recent trends in environmental awareness, new environmentally friendly or ' green' encapsulant materials (i.e. without brominated additives) have emerged. Plastic packages are also being considered for use in extreme high and low temperature electronics. 3-D packaging and wafer-level-packaging (WLP) require unique encapsulation techniques. Encapsulant materials are also being developed for micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), bio-MEMS, bio-electronics, and organic light-emitting diodes (O-LEDs). This book offers a comprehensive discussion of encapsulants in electronic applications. The main emphasis is on the encapsulation of microelectronic devices; however, the encapsulation of connectors and transformers is also addressed. This book discusses 2-D and 3-D packaging and encapsulation, encapsulation materials including environmentally friendly 'green' encapsulants, and the properties and characterization of encapsulants. Furthermore, this book provides an extensive discussion on defects and failures related to encapsulation, how to analyze such defects and failures, and how to apply quality assurance and qualification process for encapsulated packages. This book also provides information on the trends and challenges of encapsulation and microelectronic packages including application of nanotechnology. Guidance on the selection and use of encapsulants in the electronics industry, with a particular focus on microelectronics Coverage of environmentally friendly 'green encapsulants' Practical coverage of faults and defects: how to analyze them and how to avoid them

✏Adhesives Technology for Electronic Applications Book Summary : Adhesives are widely used in the manufacture and assembly of electronic circuits and products. Generally, electronics design engineers and manufacturing engineers are not well versed in adhesives, while adhesion chemists have a limited knowledge of electronics. This book bridges these knowledge gaps and is useful to both groups. The book includes chapters covering types of adhesive, the chemistry on which they are based, and their properties, applications, processes, specifications, and reliability. Coverage of toxicity, environmental impacts and the regulatory framework make this book particularly important for engineers and managers alike. The third edition has been updated throughout and includes new sections on nanomaterials, environmental impacts and new environmentally friendly ‘green’ adhesives. Information about regulations and compliance has been brought fully up-to-date. As well as providing full coverage of standard adhesive types, Licari explores the most recent developments in fields such as: • Tamper-proof adhesives for electronic security devices. • Bio-compatible adhesives for implantable medical devices. • Electrically conductive adhesives to replace toxic tin-lead solders in printed circuit assembly – as required by regulatory regimes, e.g. the EU’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS (compliance is required for all products placed on the European market). • Nano-fillers in adhesives, used to increase the thermal conductivity of current adhesives for cooling electronic devices. A complete guide for the electronics industry to adhesive types, their properties and applications – this book is an essential reference for a wide range of specialists including electrical engineers, adhesion chemists and other engineering professionals Provides specifications of adhesives for particular uses and outlines the processes for application and curing – coverage that is of particular benefit to design engineers, who are charged with creating the interface between the adhesive material and the microelectronic device Discusses the respective advantages and limitations of different adhesives for a varying applications, thereby addressing reliability issues before they occur and offering useful information to both design engineers and Quality Assurance personnel

✏Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries Book Summary : Digital Libraries are complex and advanced forms of information systems which extend and augment their physical counterparts by amplifying existing resources and services and enabling development of new kinds of human problem solving and expression. Their complexity arises from the data-rich domain of discourse as well as from extended demands for multi-disciplinary input, involving distributed systems architectures, structured digital documents, collaboration support, human-computer interaction, information filtering, etc. In addition to the broad range of technical issues, ethics and intellectual property rights add to the complication that is normally associated with the development, maintenance, and use of Digital Libraries. The Second European Conference on Digital Libraries (ECDL’98) builds upon the success of the first of this series of European Conferences on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries, held last year in Pisa, Italy, September 1-3, 1997. This series of conferences is partially funded by the TMR Programme of the European Commission and is actively supported and promoted by the European Research Consortium on Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM). The aim is to bring together the different communities involved in the development of Digital Libraries, to review progress and to discuss strategies, research and technological development (RTD) issues, as well as specific topics related to the European context. These communities include professionals from universities, research centres, industry, government agencies, public libraries, etc.

✏Information Networking Wireless Communications Technologies and Network Applications Book Summary : The papers comprising Vol. I and Vol. II were prepared for and presented at the International Conference on Information Networking 2002 (ICOIN 2002), which was held from January 30 to February 1, 2002 at Cheju Island, Korea. It was organized by the KISS (Korean Information Science Society) SIGIN in Korea, IPSJ SIG DPE (Distributed Processing Systems) in Japan, the ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), and National Taiwan University in Taiwan. The papers were selected through two steps, refereeing and presentation review. We selected for the theme of the conference the motto “One World of Information Networking”. We did this because we believe that networking will transform the world into one zone, in spite of different ages, countries and societies. Networking is in the main stream of everyday life and affects directly millions of people around the world. We are in an era of tremendous excitement for professionals working in many aspects of the converging networking, information retailing, entertainment, and publishing companies. Ubiquitous communication and computing technologies are changing the world. Online communities, e commerce, e service, and distance learning are a few of the consequences of these technologies, and advanced networking will develop new applications and technologies with global impact. The goal is the creation of a world wide distributed computing system that connects people and appliances through wireless and high bandwidth wired channels with a backbone of computers that serve as databases and object servers. Thus, Vol.
