✏The Figure of Echo Book Summary : "In this essay on 'what the imagination has made of the phenomenon of echo, ' the author examines certain aspects of the figure of echo in light of their significance for poetry. Looking at echo in its literal, acoustic sense, echo in myth, and echo as literary allusion, Mr. Hollander concludes with a study of the rhetorical status of the figure of echo, and the ancient and newly interesting trope of metalepsis, or transumption, which it appears to embody. Centered on ways by which Milton's poetry echoes, and is echoed by, other texts, The Figure of Echo deals well with Spencer and other Renaissance writers, with romantic poets such as Keats, Shelley, and Wordsworth, and with echoes of their nineteenth-century forebears in such modern poets as Hardy, Eliot, Stevens, Frost, Williams and Hart Crane."--Front dust jacket inside flap.

In her Foreword, Sneja Gunew states: "The final strategy clearly consists of continuing the dialogue with people like Joseph Pivato and thus to be far more nuanced in our research into cultural difference. Like Joseph Pivato, I believe that the study of these writings both focuses on local differences and transcends the opportunism and tunnel vision of nationalist projects by connecting us to the world at large."

✏Advances in Network and Acoustic Echo Cancellation Book Summary : For many decades, hybrid devices have been used to connect 2-wire local circuits and 4-wire long distance circuits in telephone lines. This leads to a weIl known problem, whereby echoes are generated. The delay introduced by telecommunication satellites exacerbated this problem and the need for new methods of echo control soon became obvious. The best solution to date for solving this problem was invented in the 1960s at Bell Labs by Kelly, Logan, and Sondhi, and consists of identifying the echo path generated by the hybrid by means of an adaptive filter, a technique that became known as an echo canceler. The echo canceler allowed full-duplex communication which was not possible with older echo suppression techniques. Later, with the development of hands-free teleconferencing systems, an other echo problem appeared; but this time the echo was due to the coupling between the loudspeaker and microphone. It is not surprising that the same solution was proposed to solve this problem, and most of today's telecon ferencing systems have an acoustic echo canceler. More recently, attention has been given to the very interesting problem of multichannel acoustic echo cancellation, which leads to more exciting applications that take advantage of our binaural auditory system.

✏An Echo in the Bone Book Summary : Diana Gabaldon’s brilliant storytelling has captivated millions of readers in her bestselling and award-winning Outlander saga. In An Echo in the Bone, the seventh volume, Gabaldon continues the extraordinary story of the eighteenth-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his twentieth-century time-traveling wife, Claire Randall. Jamie Fraser, former Jacobite and reluctant rebel, is already certain of three things about the American rebellion: The Americans will win, fighting on the side of victory is no guarantee of survival, and he’d rather die than have to face his illegitimate son—a young lieutenant in the British army—across the barrel of a gun. Claire Randall knows that the Americans will win, too, but not what the ultimate price may be. That price won’t include Jamie’s life or his happiness, though—not if she has anything to say about it. Meanwhile, in the relative safety of the twentieth century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter, Brianna, and her husband, Roger MacKenzie, have resettled in a historic Scottish home where, across a chasm of two centuries, the unfolding drama of Brianna’s parents’ story comes to life through Claire’s letters. The fragile pages reveal Claire’s love for battle-scarred Jamie Fraser and their flight from North Carolina to the high seas, where they encounter privateers and ocean battles—as Brianna and Roger search for clues not only to Claire’s fate but to their own. Because the future of the MacKenzie family in the Highlands is mysteriously, irrevocably, and intimately entwined with life and death in war-torn colonial America. With stunning cameos of historical characters from Benedict Arnold to Benjamin Franklin, An Echo in the Bone is a soaring masterpiece of imagination, insight, character, and adventure—a novel that echoes in the mind long after the last page is turned. BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Diana Gabaldon's Written in My Own Heart's Blood.
