✏Downsizing the Blended Home Book Summary : When merging households, one plus one needs to equal . . . one. With the same warm tone that made Downsizing the Family Home such a success, Marni Jameson goes through the turf wars and transitions new couples encounter, helping them figure out what to keep, discard, and create together. She interviews psychologists, designers, and those who have made it through the process, passing along tips, tricks, and marriage-bolstering advice. Some tips from Marni Jameson on blending homes If you want to transform a space from me to we, the fastest, cheapest way is with paint. Look around you for the five or so nonnegotiable items that ground you, items that tether you so you're not adrift. Give those a place in your remodeled space and build on them. The old marital bed is a charged item. A new bed is ideal, and new bedding is a must. Injecting a contemporary rug or piece of art, or a modern lamp or sculpture is a safe way to start moving toward modern in a room full of traditional furnishings. A blend in the master bedroom is especially important. If her bedroom is pink and purple, and his is burgundy and tan, a new gender-neutral color scheme is in order. Buying furniture together is a great way to invest in your look and your future. Start with something big in your combined style.

✏What to Do with Everything You Own to Leave the Legacy You Want Book Summary : “Write your eulogy” is an exercise life coaches often give their clients—those very much in the prime of life—to help them live better now, decide what will be important tomorrow, and leave the memory they want for decades to come. You might have significant resources to leave behind, or just a little to carefully plan for. You might want the fruits of your life’s work to benefit your family, the arts, the environment, animals, research, museums, your church, orphans, or all of the above. Regardless of where you are, this book will encourage and inspire you, then guide you. In short, this book helps you answer the question: What do I want my legacy to be? Then it helps you get there. With her trademark practical wisdom and humor, author and nationally syndicated columnist Marni Jameson—known for her many books and columns that blend heart and home—strikes just the right emotional register as she takes readers through the why, how, and when of their final downsizing project, helping them through their final story. ✏Gender and Parenthood Book Summary : The essays in this collection deploy biological and social scientific perspectives to evaluate the transformative experience of parenthood for today's women and men. They map the similar and distinct roles mothers and fathers play in their children's lives and measure the effect of gendered parenting on child well-being, work and family arrangements, and the quality of couples' relationships. Contributors describe what happens to brains and bodies when women become mothers and men become fathers; whether the stakes are the same or different for each sex; why, across history and cultures, women are typically more involved in childcare than men; why some fathers are strongly present in their children's lives while others are not; and how the various commitments men and women make to parenting shape their approaches to paid work and romantic relationships. Considering recent changes in men's and women's familial duties, the growing number of single-parent families, and the impassioned tenor of same-sex marriage debates, this book adds sound scientific and theoretical insight to these issues, constituting a standout resource for those interested in the causes and consequences of contemporary gendered parenthood.

✏Downsizing Issues Book Summary : This book examines the impact of downsizing on employee morale and productivity. Downsizing, due to economic changes, has played an integral part in business, the public sector, and schools. No longer are companies inclined to maintain the status quo for the sake of employee loyalty. Downsizing has resulted in the lives and careers of employees being destroyed. The purpose of this work is to provide insight on the perception of the work environment in light of downsizing in the states of California and Illinois Cooperative Extension. The primary role of Extension is to plan pertinent programs that are effective in meeting the educational needs of the community in agriculture, family and consumer studies, and youth development. This study focuses on how to maintain professional competencies with fewer staff. Data was provided by the Manson's Workplace Environment Analysis Inventory, an original instrument, to secure reactions of employees in a downsized environment, specifically on morale, survivor job security, and trust. The findings suggested that even though there were discrepancies between the employees' and management's perceptions of morale and survivors job security, they did share similar perceptions on trust in the workplace. The results of this study can be used in designing leadership-training programs for community-based organizations and others faced with downsizing.
