Methods have been developed to analyze for cocaine, heroin and their metabolites in human saliva and the results compared to urinalysis. Analysis of 26 samples showed that 14 positive by urinalysis and 16 positive by saliva analysis. Thus, saliva testing may be competitive to urine testing for detection of drug use.
