📒Female Silences Turkey S Crises ✍ Özlem Güçlü
✏Female Silences Turkey s Crises Book Summary : In the mid-1990s Turkish cinema experienced a remarkable revival. However, what is particularly unusual about this revival is the emergence of a new representational form: silent, inaudible characters. Equally unusual is the fact that this new on-screen silence had a gender(ed/ing) aspect, since, for the most part, the mute(d) characters were female. This book focuses on these newly emergent silent female characters in the new cinema of Turkey, and explores the relationship between the ‘new’ female representational form, the ‘new’ cinema of Turkey, and the ‘new’ socio-political climate in Turkey after the September 12, 1980 military coup. It investigates two central questions: what are the functions, formations and operations of these silent female characters, and why did this female representational form emerge specifically in this timeframe? Bearing a cinematic function of instrumentality and exposing, one way or another, a close association between point of view and discursive authority in the films studied, the silent female representational form in the new cinema of Turkey is a cinematic symptom of the on-going struggle over the disrupted orders of gender, nation and national memory due to an increase in thus-far silenced or marginalized voices in Turkey. The silent form not only functions as a cinematic instrument to reveal crises in hegemonic power positions, but also becomes a battleground within a struggle for (re)obtaining a position of discursive authority in the realms of gender, nation and past. The silent form in itself becomes an instrument on the discursive level, which enables a response to Turkey’s crises in these three interconnected realms in the post-1980s.
📒Building Reputational Capital ✍ Kevin T. Jackson
✏Building Reputational Capital Book Summary : In the aftermath of scandals such as those at Enron and WorldCom, there is a growing suspicion of the corporate world. For this reason it is more important than ever for firms to maintain a good reputation. In Building Reputational Capital, Kevin T. Jackson offers a practical guide to taking the high road--the only path that leads to lasting success. Based on extensive research and real-world experience, Building Reputational Capital reveals basic principles of integrity and fairness with which firms can build an enduring reputation. More than image, a firm's reputation is a form of capital often neglected in the boardroom and overlooked in conventional analyses of financial statements. Speaking directly to the work experience of real people in practical business settings, Jackson couples each principle with straightforward actions that drive management systems, and he provides tested strategies--from downsizing techniques to e-commerce tips--that cultivate the hidden power of a good reputation. He outlines the advantages of a superior reputation (simply put, people want to work for, invest in, and do business with a company or person with integrity), describes the vital role the firm's leader must play, offers ways to build and protect your reputation on the Internet (from defusing Internet rumors to creating an online community), and shows how to rescue your reputation once disaster hits. Perhaps most important, he shows how to strike the right balance of virtues like authenticity, honesty, responsibility, and stewardship of the environment, employees, and the economy. Highlighted with real-life success stories--from giants like Hewlett-Packard to small firms like Thanksgiving Coffee Company (which invests part of its revenues in the Central American villages in which its beans are grown), Building Reputational Capital offers a simple but effective guide for executives, managers, entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and corporate consultants.

📒Conservatism And Crisis ✍ David J. Rosner
✏Conservatism and Crisis Book Summary : What happens to a culture when it’s most basic assumptions are questioned and rejected, but no new ones are offered to replace them? This book critically analyzes anti-modernist philosophy, the (perhaps futile) attempt to recover traditional worldviews and belief systems in order to cope with the void of meaning engendered by the upheavals of modernity. The textual focus of this book is interwar Germany, as it provides a dramatic and relatively recent example of cultural crisis, with a rich philosophical literature. The writings of Heidegger, Junger, Spengler, and others are discussed in detail. Key themes will be applied to our contemporary post-modern condition as well. The book examines the dangers of anti-modernism, both past and the present, but also discusses some of its implicit appeals.

📒When Economic Crises Endure ✍ Jacques Mazier
✏When Economic Crises Endure Book Summary : This work represents the French Regulation School approach to the study of economics. Regulationists focus on the long-term evolution of capitalist economies with a strong emphasis on cross-country comparisons. Their theory centers on the notion of "accumulation regimes", a concept that analyzes long-wave growth patterns and how those patterns were shaped by five key regulatory mechanisms: 1) forms of competition; 2) the socio-technical system covering all aspects of the capital-labor relation; 3) money; 4) forms of state intervention; and 5) arrangements regulating international economic relations. Methodologically, their approach is very flexible and innovative, ranging from econometric models to interdisciplinary studies.
