✏Challenges in Conducting Online Survey Research of the Relationship Between Unit level Perceived Team Trustworthiness and Clinical and Operational Outcomes Book Summary : When conducting online survey research, obtaining an adequate response rate to have meaningful, reliable data can be challenging. In our study, examining hospital unit-level perceived trustworthiness, a 40% response rate was needed to adequately reflect the degree to which unit staff perceived one another as trustworthy. In addition, approximately 150 units were needed to analyze the relationship between unit-level perceived trustworthiness and selected operational and quality outcomes. In spite of following best practices for survey research (e.g., careful communication planning, short survey length), most of the units' response rates were inadequate to include the units in analyses. To gain a better understanding of what motivates unit staff to participate in a survey and what "turns off" unit staff from participating, we collaborated with one of the site study coordinators to conduct focus groups with nursing staff, managers, and leaders. Following changes identified from the focus groups, along with implementing additional online survey best practices, the number of units which met the 40% response rate increased from 20% of eligible units to 30% at the original hospital. At two subsequent hospitals, 47% and 50% of eligible units met the 40% response rate threshold.

📒The Use Of Online Surveys In Evaluation ✍ Lois A. Ritter
✏The Use of Online Surveys in Evaluation Book Summary : Rapid development and diffusion of computer technology in daily life has created a wealth of problems and possibilities for researchers. E-mail and the Internet enjoy everyday use by many people, and this fact is altering how evaluations are conducted. Evaluators in a variety of academic and applied settings are using online surveys for evaluation or are contemplating using Web-based data collection strategies in the near future. Public health professionals use surveys to evaluate services and courses, businesses and marketing teams use them to evaluate quality of service and the effectiveness of advertisements, educators assess program outcomes, and those who oversee clinical trials in biotechnology and pharmacology use them to test the outcomes of intervention. These are just a few of the many ways in which online surveys are used in evaluation. Although some fundamental survey research principles can be applied to online surveys, the unique features of the method require special consideration. This volume is a useful guide for anyone wishing to use online surveys for evaluation. The chapters address how online surveys can be integrated into the planning, data collection, and data management phases of an evaluation and how they can be incorporated into numerous typs of evaluation projects, such as needs assessment and impact evaluation. ✏Advanced Methods for Conducting Online Behavioral Research Book Summary : The Internet is revolutionizing the way psychologists conduct behavioral research. Studies conducted online are not only less error prone and labor intensive but also rapidly reach large numbers of diverse participants at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. In addition to improving the efficiency and accuracy of data collection, online studies provide automatic data storage and deliver immediate personalized feedback to research participants-a major incentive that can exponentially expand participant pools. Furthermore, behavioral researchers can also track data on online behavioral phenomena, including Instant Messaging (IM), social networking, and other social media. This book goes beyond the basics to teach readers advanced methods for conducting behavioral research on the Internet. Short chapters offer practical advice by leading experts in key domains of Internet research. Readers are shown, step by step, how to conduct online experiments, surveys, and ability testing, use advanced graphic tools such as drag-and-drop objects, apply automatic text analysis tools, check the validity of protocols, automate the storage and analysis of data, record "field notes" on the behavior of online subjects and chatroom or blogging communities, and much more. Chapters also address critical issues such as data security, ethics, participant recruitment, and how to ensure the completion of tests or questionnaires. This volume also features a companion Web site with additional resources, links, scripts, and instructions to further assist readers with their online research. This book is designed for researchers and advanced graduate students in the behavioral sciences seeking greater technical detail about emerging research methods. Readers will be well equipped to implement and integrate these exciting new methods into their own Internet-based behavioral research effectively, securely, and responsibly.
