✏Minimally Invasive Pediatric Urologic Surgery An Issue of Urologic Clinics Book Summary : Urologists were early adaptors of robotic assisted laparoscopy, and pediatric urology similarly led in incorporating the technology into the surgical armamentarium for treating even the smallest infants. And it is in that tradition that this issue of Urologic Clinics of North America surveys the journey from the earliest pure laparoscopic procedures to the most advanced reconstruction possible today due to evolutions in technology. The issue begins with the procedure that arguably popularized the laparoscopic approach in pediatric urology—the laparoscopic orchiopexy, then posit the continued relevance of pure laparoscopy in the robotic era, before finally surveying contemporary advances in robotic-assisted pediatric urologic surgery. The issue is of relevance not only tor the novice contemplating a transition to laparoscopy or robotics but also for the seasoned minimally invasive surgeon seeking to enhance skills and augment his or her practice.

✏Anesthesia for Urologic Surgery Book Summary : This is a concise, up-to-date reference on anesthesia for urological surgery. Urological anesthesia is not recognized as a specialty, and a majority of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists will provide anesthesia for these patients. Advances in urological procedures, the advent of treatment of patients with strong anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications, and the demographics of urology patients (many of whom are young or elderly) present challenges for the anesthesiologist and have necessitated changes in anesthesia practice. The last volume on this topic was published in 2000, and the time is right for a fresh presentation of contemporary expertise in anesthesia for urological surgery. The book provides a brief review of renal physiology and pharmacology then addresses anesthesia for each major group of urological procedures (e.g., endoscopic, office-based, laparoscopic and robotic, nephrolithotripsy, renal transplantation, etc.) and in special populations, including the geriatric patient, the pediatric patient, and the pregnant patient. Separate chapters discuss the unique challenges of positioning the patient, and of managing the patient taking anticoagulant and antiplatelet medication, and the chapter on pain management addresses common and important perioperative concerns. ✏Controversies and Innovations in Urological Surgery Book Summary : The title of this book is a challenge. Anyone with the least knowledge of present day urology will know that there are many very controversial aspects of this subject. Urology is not alone in this unsettled environment for there are similar debates in almost all other aspects of surgery. In addition to the rapid changes in technology, an important part of the explanation for these controversies is simply that more surgeons are prepared to admit that no area of their work is so established that it does not bear further scrutiny and assessment. Argument can be tedious but debate is healthy. This book aims to present material that is debatable: experienced practitioners of each topic explain why an opinion or preference can be sustained. The purist might wish to have these opinions resolved by a well-planned clinical trial, but experience of clinical trials shows that they do not always produce results that are easily translated into a positive change in clinical practice. Would the reader be persuaded more by a statistically significant difference or by an experienced clinician who has reached certain conclusions? Both are risky, but since surgical techniques are often not easily converted into appropriate studies or trials the Editors have obtained the best opinion on each controversy and innovation. The media adore controversy for its own sake. The medical profession accepts controversy but knows that few events in medicine are absolute and few procedures can be done only by one method.

Ones of the most often serious complications of cervical cancer radical surgery are damages of urinary tract system which healing need multidisciplinary surgical team, prolong hospital stay, are very unpleasant for the patient and expensive as much. The aim of our study is to establish the urologic complications of radical type C2 hysterectomy. Methodology. This retrospective study included 52 patients with clinically and pathology established cervical I and II stages cancer threatened with radical type C2 hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection for the 5 last years (2013-2018). The urologic complications we included in our study are: intraoperative ureter and urinary bladder lesions and postoperative ureterovaginal and vesicovaginal fistulas. Results. From 52 (100%) patients included and passed surgery for cervical cancer, urological complications we find out at 8 (15.4%) of women two (3.8%) of them have preoperative radiation therapy. Intraoperative urologic complications are 5 (9.6%) as followed: 3 (5.8%) lesions of ureter and 2 (3.8%) urinary bladder lesions one patient with preoperative radiation therapy. At four of this complications we form multidisciplinary surgical team (urologist included) to restore normal organ anatomy. Postoperative complications are 3 (5.8%): 2 (3.9%) ureterovaginal and 1 (1.9%) with preoperative radiation therapy vesicovaginal fistulas. All they need surgery to be treated and multidisciplinary surgical team involved. Conclusions. Urology complications are very common during and after radical surgery (hysterectomy type C2) for cervical cancer. More often they need formation of multidisciplinary surgical team (urologist included) to be treated. Preoperative radiation therapy is a possible predictive factor for common urology complications.
