✏Los Angeles s Angels Flight Book Summary : From 1901 to 1969, Angels Flight was America's most famous incline railway, familiar from its many appearances on postcards and in pulp fiction and film noir. It inspired the titles of five novels, including a 1999 best seller, and three films. Angels Flight's two colorful trolleys glided up and down the side of Bunker Hill in the heart of Los Angeles, carrying 100 million passengers between a downtown business district and a Victorian aerie that gradually deteriorated into a gritty slum. When the city turned Bunker Hill into an acropolis of skyscrapers, Angels Flight was packed up like a boy's electric train set and stored away for nearly 30 years. After a restoration in the mid-1990s that led to a fatal accident, Angels Flight has reopened and is now ready to claim its next chapters in Los Angeles history.

✏Angel s Flight Book Summary : The old saying is true. Knowledge really is power, especially when angels and gods play the game. The original Immortals, masters of magic, once reigned over every world in the known universe-until they suddenly vanished. The gods and demons have been fighting over the remains of their fractured empire ever since. Millennia later, new angel Leda, a soldier in the gods' army, is recuperating from her transformation. Her recovery is cut short, however, when a curse strikes New York City, a spell targeted directly at the Legion of Angels. Even as the Legion's soldiers succumb to wrath, jealousy, and fear, the beasts on the plains of monsters are growing in numbers and power. And the longer Leda and her archangel lover Nero investigate these phenomena, the closer they come to the ancient secret that destroyed the Immortals-and that now threatens to tear the Earth apart. Angel's Flight is the eighth book in the Legion of Angels series.

✏The Flight of the Angels Book Summary : It is a close study of four novels by Boris Vian. It aims to show how L'Ecume des jours, L'Automne a Pekin, L'Herbe rouge and L'Arrache-coeur form a unified and coherent tetralogy. By establishing close links between these four texts, it becomes possible to achieve a more comprehensive understanding, not only of the significance of the tetralogy in exposing a complex and multi-layered novelistic strategy at the heart of the vianesque, but of the individual novels as autonomous creations. An examination of the novels reveals that they are not merely joined to one another via a superficial network of textual similarities (that which I refer to as intratextuality), but that this intertwining is emblematic of a common method of narrative construction. Each Vian novel is dependent, for a thorough understanding of the text to be possible, upon the multiple lines of external influence running through it. The sources of this influence (which I refer to as intertextuality) are located in various major texts of twentieth century literature, anglophone as well as francophone. Thus, in each instance the narrative is driven by a complicated interaction of intratextuality and intertextuality."

✏Victorian Los Angeles Book Summary : Before the oil boom and rise of Hollywood brought today's renowned landmarks to downtown Los Angeles, an entirely different and often forgotten high Victorian city existed. Prior to Union Station, there was the impressive Romanesque Arcade Station of the Southern Pacific line in the 1880s. Before UCLA, the Gothic Revival State Normal School stood in place of today's Los Angeles Public Library. Elsewhere the city held Victorian pleasure gardens, amusement piers and even an ostrich farm, all lost to time and the rapid modernization of a new century. Local author Charles Epting reveals Los Angeles's unknown past at the turn of the twentieth century through the prominent citizens, events and major architectural styles that propelled the growth of a nascent city.

✏The Levine Affair Book Summary : An American missionary has been kidnapped in by Boko Haram. A young Nigerian mother is sentenced to death by stoning. A Texas oilman has disappeared in Nigeria’s oil-rich delta. No government in the world will touch these politically charged cases. Acquisitions editor Karen Burke works for the small, L.A. based “faith and inspiration” imprint of a venerable New York publishing company. She arrives at work one Monday morning to find a book proposal on her desk. “See if this story has legs,” her boss writes. “If you have to do a site visit, do it. This could be huge!” The book proposal was written by an American, Nate Gregory, recounting his shocking recollections of being held hostage by Muslim radicals in Nigeria. His story is gripping, and although Nate was simply doing construction work on a short-term missionary assignment, he turns out to be a surprisingly talented writer. Karen is troubled, however, with his description of his Muslim captors, his seemingly “colonial” view of the Christian community in Africa, and his eloquent but relentless deprecation of “Sharia law,” the Islamic religious system under which he was held captive. He also makes incredible claims about brutal amputations as sentencing for crimes, crude violations of women’s rights, and the burning alive of Christians in their churches. Talented or not, is Nate Gregory just another Islamophobic religious fanatic who hates Muslims? Meanwhile, David Levine, an Israeli philanthropist based in London, has put an elite paramilitary team together. Levine is deeply concerned about the global threat of Islamic jihadists like Boko Haram, and their ferocious tactics in trying to impose Shari’a law around the world. Since neither the US, NATO nor any other government wants to get involved in politically incorrect religious politics, Levine has formed an elite team of former Special Forces commandoes. He sees it as his own little army – fighting jihadis, one deadly attack at a time. Unbeknownst to Nate Gregory – who’s been led astray by a Southern California preacher who claims to have miraculously saved him from his captors - Levine’s team, commanded by Joe Brac a retired Green Beret, was actually responsible for his release from captivity. Now Levine has tasked Brac with another rescue – this time to liberate Jumoke Akabakar, the 18-year-old Nigerian girl who has been sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. The story unfolds as Karen Burke, in order to confirm the facts in Nate’s book proposal, travels to Nigeria to meet up with him. The two of them get along better than they might have imagined. But what seems to be a simple fact-finding mission soon gets increasingly ugly. While Karen and Nate are in Nigeria, they learn that an American oilman has been kidnapped and beheaded in the Niger River delta. At about the same time, the corrupt governor of the local Nigerian state is assassinated. Worst of all, an urgent warning reaches them that a mob of jihadis has targeted the church compound where they are staying. The Boko Haram terrorists are heavily armed and raging with hatred. All at once Karen and Nate find themselves in the crosshairs of bloodthirsty radicals. They have unexpectedly been left on their own and aren’t at all sure that help is one the way. They have no choice but to run for their lives. Joe Brac’s small team of Special Operators rescue has been working night and day to develop of plan to liberate Jumoke. That was their key mission, well conceived and meticulously planned. But now, unexpectedly, they have two more victims in grave danger. Will they find a way to rescue Nate and Karen, too?

✏Angel Flight Mid Atlantic Book Summary : In 1972, two pilots—one a federal career engineer, the other the pastor of a prominent church in Washington, D.C.—discovered a common passion for flying airplanes and serving people. One day over lunch, the men conceived a flight plan, one that would undergo many changes before becoming Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic, as it is known today. Ed Boyer of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Dr. Louis Evans, pastor of the National Presbyterian Church, discussed how to pool their interests and qualifications. From its beginnings as a charitable shuttle service for religious leaders and dignitaries, to full-scale charitable air ambulance operations, to Angel Flights for ambulatory patients, the initial vision has grown into a network of over 1,500 volunteer pilots in the Mid-Atlantic region who use their private planes to fly people in need to specialized treatment. Angel Flight coordinates missions of mercy from its offices in Virginia Beach, helping patients to find “the shortest distance between home and hope.”

✏The Electrifying Angels Flight Book Summary : The Electrifying Angel's Flight (sequel) to The Electrifying Demise Six years have passed, and Angel Flight Gulf Stream medically equipped air transport plane fleet has added Angel Flight Four and Angel Flight Six. The people in The Dalles, Oregon, are law-abiding citizens. The stories unfold, and new residents are welcomed, each having a fascinating history. The Michael Murphy & Son Electrical Contractors business was the financier for the formation of Mike Murphy (the son) to realize his dream of becoming a MediVac service to people free of any charges. Mike and Susan have their wedding anniversary evening without fanfare. Mike is needing flight crews for additional planes, and the encounter with his first applicant for the pilot seat has a long story. He has a wife whose story is important as well. This passage covers conversation of general, getting acquainted subjects. It progresses to a short flight that involved teaching to achieve "smoothe" touchdowns for the comfort of ill or injured patients arrival at hospitals, etc. for urgent care. The next encounter is a brawl with a thug at the local grocery store. This is exciting, and blow by blow narrative is action-packed! The new pilot's lady and other women visit, and soon wedding plans are forming. The tale continues when an attractive lady comes into Mike's office to apply for a pilot's position. She is a vibrant and robust character with issues; some immediate and others such as lodging, car parking, clothes. These are minor, and the significant problems are exciting, surprising, impressive and unusual. vi Three guys from New Jersey came into the office. They were expected and looking to qualify for a job with Angel Flight. One of them is noticeably causing suspicion and distrust at first impressions. That was the correct impression for this guy. There was a call for a copilot, and an available part-time pilot from Wyoming was hired for a one-time flight. The Police of Chief in The Dalles is a Native American and has personality and fairness in his enforcement of legal statutes and sometimes affording competent counsel to wayward souls who go astray. Along the way, many shadowy characters and policemen have encounters of different degrees and behaviors. In Chicago and in Atlantic City are battles of evil guy/right guy eye-opening events. Crime does not pay. Romance, of course, is not missing from this book by any means, and there is no need to search for the scenes, although not to be alarmed by graphic explanations. Many reverent scenes occur and are heartwarming and are good examples for any ready to notice. Brotherly love and counting are blessings are only two of many. The emergency episode of a man injured by a bull is unique. He is a tough rancher and doesn't want sedation or any pampering. The part-time pilot was also a rancher, and a business deal was agreed by the two that will be a point of information to the average person. This copilot also shows a profound talent, none of which, his family nor friends were aware of. A rickety truck parks in front of The Dalles police chief's office and a black confident, but obviously troubled young woman explains she is need of a job and has a son and mother for whom she is responsible. This episode is, again, human interest and does turn out for the best. The plot thickens, and things begin to be apparent that dangerous criminal activity is about to be exposed, and the case can be closed. Before and after the incidents and events there are picnics, casino activity, hand to hand contact of criminal vs. police, devotional scenes, and rarely does a problematic situation go unsolved. The ending is quite violent but justified.

✏Gazed on by Angels in Flight Book Summary : After years of exploration in rainy, mosquito-infested woodlands in Zambia, Scottish explorer Dr/ David Livingstone gazed on the mighty Victoria Falls and its astounding beauty for the first time. In awe, he reckoned such an amazing natural wonder must have been gazed upon by angels in flight. More than 150 years later, two vivacious and gorgeous models, Sofia and Coco, and a broadcast journalist, Jody, are drawn, as if by fate, to the magical falls where life will test them as the worlds famous Miss Victoria Falls pageant is underway. At the falls, David Livingstone discovered a magnificent scenic bliss. But can the breathtaking beauty of the falls conquer the challenges these three women encounter- Cocoa, with her mixed heritage, Sofia, with a secret that stole her innocence; and Jody, with her new love interest? Will the women emerge from this event with a more constructive outlook on life, or will they fold under their individual crises? Thrust in a paradise with wildlife and exotic plants, twenty Zambian models compete for the unusual crown during a two-week assignment in the beauty of the tourism hub-Livingstone.
