✏Into the Fantastic Book Summary : DescriptionTom McNeight's book Into the Fantastic explores the vicissitudes of mental illness. He deals with this broad topic from both an academic, philosophical and a personal viewpoint. Tom feels he has been unjustly treated by the mental health authorities ever since he was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic at the tender age of nineteen years. Tom subsequently spent most of his adult life being heavily drugged upon what the psychiatrists refer to as anti-psychotic medication. Despite such huge challenges, Tom has risen up to become a successful artist and writer and he has gained deep spiritual insights into his life. About the AuthorThomas Edward McNeight is a published author on mental health issues. He draws on his background in philosophical studies with the university. He lives in Wanganui, New Zealand, where he writes and paints. And gathers insights into the plight of the mentally ill, amongst his many acquaintances. Tom is impassioned in his endeavours to highlight the plight of the emotionally affected and he would like to see the status of the psychiatric institutions be raised to a level befitting that of the twenty first century. His experience has been bleak: As with many of his friends, Tom feels that psychoanalysis is a much healthier option available to psychiatrists than is the current ubiquitous use of harmful chemicals to treat mental illness.

✏Beyond Psychosis Book Summary : Description""A mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder can seriously affect one's appraisal of life. Both in a negative way and a positive way. In a negative way, to try to function like a normal adult in today's fiercely competitive world whilst under the influence of loads of medication, life can be a very hard battle. Believe me it is hard. From a positive perspective, coping with life whilst being schizophrenic can enable one to step back from life and obtain a view of it that most people do not ever have. To engineer one's life with enough skill and alacrity to ensure one obtains at least some satisfaction from it depends on things I do not understand. Perhaps some people do. But the secret of happiness seems, on the face of it, to be once again a subjective issue. Something only you alone can deal with."" And this is what this book does: this book is one man's attempt to imbue life, writing and art with meaning, understanding and happiness. It is senseful, compassionate and creative to an unusual degree. About the AuthorTom McNeight lives in Wanganui, New Zealand. In spite of his diagnosis as a paranoid schizophrenic, with the discrimination he has often experienced and the many manual occupations he has had to work at, he has lived an interesting and exciting life. This includes such adventures as mountaineering, parachuting, bungy jumping, tramping and working in the bush, and fishing. He has completed many philosophy papers at university and has developed a skill in both writing and painting. He continues to enjoy these activities, frequently holding painting exhibitions and writing new books. His other continuing hobby is fishing.

✏The Antimodern Condition Book Summary : Much of social and political thought over the last three centuries has been concerned with transgression and change, with progress and a focus on creating something ‘better’ than we have now. But when many of these ideas are put into practice the result has been violence, turmoil and human misery. This, we might say, has been the result of grand ideals taking precedence over the interests of ordinary people. This book presents an alternative view: the antimodern condition. This involves the rejection of change and progress and instead seeks to promote certainty, permanence and settlement. The antimodern condition is where we are in place and settled. It is where we are part of the world around us and not at war with it. It is where we accept our place: we are with those who we care for, and so we are theirs. The antimodern condition is where we recognise that we dwell within traditions, which may evolve and change, but which keep us within the bounds of what is known and what works. This book takes a cross-disciplinary approach, integrating ideas from politics, philosophy, social theory and architecture to present an alternative to progress and other modern conceits.

✏The Conspiracy Rhetoric of Mankind Book Summary : When we think we learned something new, we are quite proud of it. But it wears off quickly for an unknown reason. So, what is wrong with what we do? When you start to think about the things you learn, and what the reason or purpose actually is, then you have to wonder sometimes is it really something new we just learned. Because having in mind to learn something new can be quite exhausting at times. Maybe we have to start to think about this in a different way, and take a different approach in discovering new things. It is like a treasure hunt, imagine that we are all pirates looking for an adventure or treasures. Obviously our life is about searching for something, but most of the time we dont even know what we are looking for. We do this quite instinctively, maybe we are preprogrammed in a way and we are not aware of it. But when you find out who we are, then everything seams to make sense. Our entire world (Universe) stands on myth and mythology (including our history), making us wonder if it is real. Lets look at life in a different way. Learn more about our history, maybe we can learn from old things our ancestors already new, and then set that aside and try to find your own way. You most certainly will see things with different eyes. This is what our life is all about, it is a soul search where the experience we have along the way is the reward (treasure). In Australia the Aboriginal people are most likely a candidate for such an idea. They go on a regular Walkabout, which literately means looking for something. They might find something which can be worth bringing home as an idea for which the whole community can benefit from. This is what a walkabout is all about, looking for something which is useful, and has a value in the community. After all we are constantly occupied by making a living or providing for our needs. The westerners actually practice the same thing, we call them the Backpackers. People who go and see other parts of the world, enjoy the diversity and beauty of nature, as well as other cultures and traditions. Yes, we can learn something old, have a lot of fun and it can be quite rewarding. This book was taking shape, based on an ironic thought; How much knowledge there is, and we know so little. How come we know so little? We know all the most complicated things there can be, but we know very little of what life is about. What is the cause for all things? How does it all work? What is the reason? And last but not least; How do we fit into everything? Is it possible that we have taken valuable information from ancient Greek knowledge, but ignored one of their most important practices the philosophy of all things. Has everything to us become scientific or important because sciences can explain the real world. Have we forgotten that this real world we live in comes from a mystical source (something unseen). Something we call a different dimension because we cant possibly explain it. It is such an exotic source, that it would take a lot of ancient knowledge to discover the truth. Do you want to discover the truth? This book might have some answers.

✏How to Make Good Decisions and Be Right All the Time Book Summary : A compelling guide to ethical thinking for everyday life In How to Make Good Decisions and Be Right All the Time Iain King presents an introduction to moral philosophy from the ancient Greeks to the Enlightenment and beyond. He argues that right and wrong need a Newtonian revolution so that they are no longer a matter of judgment or guesswork and presents a system of simple formulas for solving difficult moral quandaries. Clearly argued, the book combines new ideas with old and rips apart traditional tenets of morality, dismantling even the golden rule that you should "do unto others as you would have done unto you." In their place, the author constructs a new, comprehensive system of ethics, identifying the basic DNA of right and wrong and offering clear advice on how to be good in today's complicated and challenging world. Sometimes controversial and thoroughly engaging throughout, How to Make Good Decisions and Be Right All the Time is required reading for anyone with a difficult decision to make.

✏Great North Road Book Summary : Great North Road is a standalone science fiction adventure from Peter F. Hamilton, the author of The Night's Dawn trilogy. When attending a Newcastle murder scene, Detective Sidney Hurst finds a dead North family clone. Yet none have been reported missing. And in 2122, twenty years ago, a North clone billionaire was horrifically murdered in the same manner on the tropical planet of St Libra. So, if the murderer is still at large, was Angela Tramelo wrongly convicted? She never wavered under interrogation, claiming she alone survived an alien attack. Investigating this potential alien threat now becomes the Human Defence Agency's top priority. St Libran bio-fuel is the lifeblood of Earth's economy and must be secured. A vast expedition is mounted via the Newcastle gateway, and experts are dispatched to the planet – with Angela Tramelo, grudgingly released from prison. But the expedition is cut off deep within St Libra's rainforests, and the murders begin. Angela insists it's the alien, but her new colleagues aren't sure. Did she see an alien, or does she have other reasons for being on St Libra?
