✏Advances and Trends in Genetic Programming Book Summary : Advances and Trends in Genetic Programming, Volume One: Classification Techniques and Life Cycles presents the reader with complete coverage of the most current developments in Genetic Programming for Artificial Intelligence. The book provides a thorough look at classification as a systematic way of predicting class membership for a set of examples or instances using the properties of those examples. Classification arises in a wide variety of real life situations, such as detecting faces from large database, finding vehicles, matching fingerprints and diagnosing medical conditions. A classification algorithm requires huge amount of accuracy and reliability that is very difficult for human programmers. Therefore, there is a need to develop an automated computer-based classification system that can classify the required objects. Presents the latest advances in Genetic Programming for Artificial Intelligence Discusses automated computer-based classification algorithms and systems, including comparison of different types of machine learning and two-class versus multi-class classification Includes discussions of tree-based Genetic Programming, the Intron problem, Dynamic Fitness Evaluation, Crossover and Mutation Operators, and a presentation of an integrated model-based Genetic Programming Algorithm for multi-class classification

✏Recent Advances in Computational Optimization Book Summary : Optimization is part of our everyday life. We try to organize our work in a better way and optimization occurs in minimizing time and cost or the maximization of the profit, quality and efficiency. Also many real world problems arising in engineering, economics, medicine and other domains can be formulated as optimization tasks. This volume is a comprehensive collection of extended contributions from the Workshop on Computational Optimization. This book presents recent advances in computational optimization. The volume includes important real world problems like parameter settings for con- trolling processes in bioreactor, robot skin wiring, strip packing, project scheduling, tuning of PID controller and so on. Some of them can be solved by applying traditional numerical methods, but others need a huge amount of computational resources. For them it is shown that is appropriate to develop algorithms based on metaheuristic methods like evolutionary computation, ant colony optimization, constrain programming etc.

✏Recent Advances in Intelligent Paradigms and Applications Book Summary : Digital systems that bring together the computing capacity for processing large bodies of information with the human cognitive capability are called intelligent systems. Building these systems has become one of the great goals of modem technology. This goal has both intellectual and economic incentives. The need for such intelligent systems has become more intense in the face of the global connectivity of the internet. There has become an almost insatiable requirement for instantaneous information and decision brought about by this confluence of computing and communication. This requirement can only be satisfied by the construction of innovative intelligent systems. A second and perhaps an even more significant development is the great advances being made in genetics and related areas of biotechnology. Future developments in biotechnology may open the possibility for the development of a true human-silicon interaction at the micro level, neural and cellular, bringing about a need for "intelligent" systems. What is needed to further the development of intelligent systems are tools to enable the representation of human cognition in a manner that allows formal manipulation. The idea of developing such an algebra goes back to Leibniz in the 17th century with his dream of a calculus ratiocinator. It wasn't until two hundred years later beginning with the work of Boole, Cantor and Frege that a formal mathematical logic for modeling human reasoning was developed. The introduction of the modem digital computer during the Second World War by von Neumann and others was a culmination of this intellectual trend.

✏Meta Heuristics Book Summary : Meta-Heuristics: Advances and Trends in Local Search Paradigms for Optimizations comprises a carefully refereed selection of extended versions of the best papers presented at the Second Meta-Heuristics Conference (MIC 97). The selected articles describe the most recent developments in theory and applications of meta-heuristics, heuristics for specific problems, and comparative case studies. The book is divided into six parts, grouped mainly by the techniques considered. The extensive first part with twelve papers covers tabu search and its application to a great variety of well-known combinatorial optimization problems (including the resource-constrained project scheduling problem and vehicle routing problems). In the second part we find one paper where tabu search and simulated annealing are investigated comparatively and two papers which consider hybrid methods combining tabu search with genetic algorithms. The third part has four papers on genetic and evolutionary algorithms. Part four arrives at a new paradigm within meta-heuristics. The fifth part studies the behavior of parallel local search algorithms mainly from a tabu search perspective. The final part examines a great variety of additional meta-heuristics topics, including neural networks and variable neighbourhood search as well as guided local search. Furthermore, the integration of meta-heuristics with the branch-and-bound paradigm is investigated.

✏Advances in Inductive Logic Programming Book Summary : Inductive Logic Programming is a research area situated in machine learning and logic programming, two subfields of artificial intelligence. The goal of inductive logic programming is to develop theories, techniques and tools for inducing hypotheses from observations using the representations from computational logic. Inductive Logic Programming has a high potential for applications in data mining, automated scientific discovery, knowledge discovery in databases, as well as automatic programming. This book provides a detailed state-of-the-art overview of Inductive Logic Programming as well as a collection of recent technical contributions to Inductive Logic Programming. The state-of-the-art overview is based on - among others - the successful ESPRIT basic research project no. 6020 on Inductive Logic Programming, funded by the European Commission from 1992 till 1995. It highlights some of the most important recent results within Inductive Logic Programming and can be used as a thorough introduction to the field. This book is relevant to students, researchers and practitioners of artificial intelligence and computer science, especially those concerned with machine learning, data mining and computational logic.

✏Intelligent Data Analysis in Science Book Summary : This book introduces the growing range of computational methods which arise from research into Artificial Intelligence (AI), and which are coming to be recognised as tools of great potential in modern scientific analysis. These methods offer tremendous potential in the analysis of scientific data: papers reporting the application of AI methods in chemistry are currently being published at a rate of several hundred a year; similar figures apply to other areas of science, and the numbers are increasing rapidly. This book leads the reader into the relevant research literature, and provides both the principles and applications of the subject at a level accessible to senior undergraduates and beginning postgraduates.
