✏Adultery and Divorce in Calvin s Geneva Book Summary : In Calvin's Geneva, the changes associated with the Reformation were particularly abrupt and far-reaching, in large part owing to John Calvin himself. Adultery and Divorce in Calvin's Geneva makes two major contributions to our understanding of this time. The first is to the history of divorce. The second is in illustrating the operations of the Consistory of Geneva--an institution designed to control in all its variety the behavior of the entire population--which was established at Calvin's insistence in 1541. This mandate came shortly after the city officially adopted Protestantism in 1536, a time when divorce became legally possible for the first time in centuries. Robert Kingdon illustrates the changes that accompanied the earliest Calvinist divorces by examining in depth a few of the most dramatic cases and showing how divorce affected real individuals. He considers first, and in the most detail, divorce for adultery, the best-known grounds for divorce and the best documented. He also covers the only other generally accepted grounds for these early divorces--desertion. The second contribution of the book, to show the work of the Consistory of Geneva, is a first step toward a fuller study of the institution. Kingdon has supervised the first accurate and complete transcription of the twenty-one volumes of registers of the Consistory and has made the first extended use of these materials, as well as other documents that have never before been so fully utilized.

✏The Understanding of Adultery in the Hebrew Bible Book Summary : Adultery, though not an umbrella concept for all the sexual prohibitions in the Hebrew Bible, enjoys a certain pride of place. Remarkably, it is the one sexual prohibition attested in all biblical genres, which makes it very representative in the Hebrew Bible. It is the only Hebrew biblical sexual prohibition explicitly mentioned in the Decalogue. A solid understanding of Hebrew biblical adultery, therefore, is an important step towards grasping the vital role of human sexuality in the Hebrew Bible, both in terms of inter-human relationships and the relationship between the human and the divine. Without prejudice to the contents of the Hebrew biblical lexicons and theological dictionaries, this work aims at providing a comprehensive understanding of adultery in the Hebrew Bible: its meaning, punishments and the implications thereof. Among others, it corrects some wrong assumptions about the concept of adultery in the Hebrew Bible, and provides a balanced and unbiased Hebrew biblical conception of adultery and the implications thereof for todays couples.

✏Culture and Adultery Book Summary : Adultery, it is often assumed, was not a major concern of English culture during the Victorian age, and the apparent absence of adultery—indeed, of all explicit representations of sexuality—in turn made censorship for obscene libel unnecessary. Very few writers, conventional wisdom has it, were bold enough to defy the powerful implicit constraints imposed upon literary production. If we find no English Anna Karenina or Madame Bovary, Barbara Leckie nevertheless demonstrates that adultery preoccupied English culture during this period. After the Matrimonial Causes Act of 1857 was passed, adultery was prominently discussed in the Divorce Court. Transcriptions of divorce trials were an immensely popular front-page feature of almost all daily newspapers for more than fifty years. At the same time as narratives of adultery stood at the center of sensation novels such as Mary Elizabeth Bradden's The Doctor's Wife, literary reviews and cultural debates strongly encouraged serious novelists to avoid the topic. In Culture and Adultery, Leckie mines novels, newspapers, court and Parliamentary records to explore several related sets of issues. How, first, did adultery become "visible" in the public sphere in the second half of the nineteenth century? Why, conversely, has the discursive history of adultery been deemphasized in the English critical tradition? And how is the history of the Victorian and early twentieth-century English novel revised when the culture's concern with adultery and censorship are reintroduced?

✏The Novel of Female Adultery Book Summary : The novel of adultery is a nineteenth-century form about the experience of women, produced almost exclusively by men. Bill Overton's study is the first to address the gender implications of this form, and the first to write its history. The opening chapter defines the terms 'adultery' and 'novel of adultery', and discusses how the form arose in Continental Europe, but failed to appear in Britain. Successive chapters deal with its development in France, and with examples from Russia, Denmark, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

✏Fashioning Adultery Book Summary : This 2002 book provides a major survey of representations of adultery in later seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century England. Bringing together a wide variety of literary and legal sources - including sermons, pamphlets, plays, diaries, periodicals, trial reports and the records of marital litigation - it documents a growing diversity in perceptions of marital infidelity in this period, against the backdrop of an explosion in print culture and a decline in the judicial regulation of sexual immorality. In general terms the book charts and explains a gradual transformation of ideas about extra-marital sex, whereby the powerfully established religious argument that adultery was universally a sin became increasingly open to challenge. The book charts significant developments in the idiom in which sexually transgressive behaviour was discussed, showing how evolving ideas of civility and social refinement and new thinking about gender difference influenced assessments of immoral behaviour.

✏Adultery Book Summary : Has your heart been broken by a cheating husband or cheating wife? Has your life been gripped by the agony of adultery? Adultery is no small matter, especially for those who experience the intense pain of living with a spouse who breaks the marriage covenant. June Hunt provides Christian counseling on how to find hope in God. But, this is more than Christian marriage counseling—it shows how to find healing, hope, and forgiveness after the devastation of an affair. June defines adultery and reveals the warning signs of adultery, such as change in mood, appearance, spending, etc. She provides practical ways and sound biblical wisdom in answering tough questions, such as-- • What can I do to ensure that I will be faithful when I feel attracted to someone beside my spouse? • My husband had numerous affairs and now wants to reconcile. Should we get back together? • Why does anyone get involved in adultery? Is it my fault? •Is it wrong to try to find out whether or not my spouse is being unfaithful? If it's not wrong, what is the best way to do so? June illustrates the consequences of adultery by retelling the story of David, a man of God who fell into the temptation of having an affair, which led to guilt-ridden "cover ups" and a strained relationship with God. She goes on to explain the causes, characteristics, and consequences of adultery, such as the-- • 9 false promises of adultery • 9 characteristics of an adulterer • 9 common reasons people get sucked into adultery In the section titled, "Steps to Solution," June Hunt explains-- • How an adulterer can change--for good. • 6 common mistakes made by the faithful spouse • 6 ways the faithful spouse can respond to adultery in a healthy way • How to prepare and conduct a crisis intervention

✏ADULTERY Book Summary : We wrote this book for all who have suffered the devastation of betrayal through marital infidelity by their spouse. It is also for the betrayer who repents, is honest, and works to make things right for the future. It is for both to help them understand that when the past is properly dealt with, then new memories of life can be made to overshadow and outweigh the past bad memories. This book has been written by two real people who go by “Jack and Jill” in this book. We, Jack and Jill, have been married for 30 years as of our wedding anniversary the year 2013. The 30 years are not continuous due to a few months of living apart which included a divorce due to Jill’s marital unfaithfulness. After 20 years of marriage, Jack learned that Jill had been unfaithful to their marriage vows. Jill told Jack that she was sorry and still loved him, and they worked on their marriage for a while, but Jill had another affair with someone else about six months later. We chose the names “Jack and Jill” due to the children’s’ rhyme about how Jack and Jill went up the hill together and one fell down and the other came tumbling after. In marriage what one spouse does has an effect on the other in ways far exceeding the actions by others in any other type of relationship. We wrote this book with the hope that if someone is considering having an affair, thus being unfaithful to their spouse and to God, that they will reconsider taking that path once they realize the consequences that their actions will have both for their self and their spouse. We wrote this book to give hope, help, and direction to the betrayed spouse regardless of their or their spouses’ present desires to maintain the marriage relationship. We give guidance to the pair if they decide to stay together and resolve their relationship problems. Some of the issues that we help couples deal with are: the disappointment over the loss of the specialness and uniqueness of the marriage relationship along with the once pure marital bed alongside any inappropriate emotional attachments that were formed during the affair; the why and reasons for the affair and betrayal; forgiveness for the harm caused; and building trust again. Above all else during these times of anguish and despair we counsel people to turn their life and the entire turmoil of events that have occurred over to God.

✏The Romance of Adultery Book Summary : Peggy McCracken offers a feminist historicist reading of Guenevere, Iseut, and other adulterous queens of Old French literature, and situates romance narratives about queens and their lovers within the broader cultural debate about the institution of queenship in twelfth- and thirteenth-century France. Moving among a wide selection of narratives that recount the stories of queens and their lovers, McCracken explores the ways adultery is appropriated into the political structure of romance. McCracken examines the symbolic meanings and uses of the queen's body in both romance and the historical institutions of monarchy and points toward the ways medieval romance contributed to the evolving definition of royal sovereignty as exclusively male.

✏Cosmic Adultery Book Summary : ‘My name is Mary Theobold,’ she said, when it was her turn to speak. Ralf’s head swivelled of its own accord to look at her. Her voice seemed to take hold of him. She continued, ‘I’m a playwright, an actor and an author. My books and my plays are autobiographical. They describe how I live and work at the threshold between the living and dead. I’m very pleased to have been invited to speak at the conference and I look forward very much to the coming week.’ Ralf was hardly breathing. In the pleasant Northern summer of 2006, a chance meeting at an anthroposophical conference opens the portal of initiation for psychotherapist Ralf Pinton and author Mary Theobold when, through a powerful mutual attraction, they meet forces of karma that will test the limit of their morality and the strength of their spiritual conviction. They embark on a clandestine relationship through emails, texts and phone calls but the shock of a kundalini experience (a process of awakening) catapults Mary and Ralf so deeply into the conundrum of their destiny that they lose sight of the effect their reliance on technology is having on their relationship. Mary is offered a way out of the maze through the cryptic appearance of the Grail Cup but Ralf casts doubt on its authenticity and on Mary’s spiritual discernment. Is it the true Grail Cup or mere intellectual trickery? Is Ralf trying to protect Mary from a serious spiritual mistake or is he trying to undermine her for his own dark motive and purpose? This debut novel is the first book in a trilogy. It takes the reader through the dramatic and shifting soulscapes that must be traversed by modern spiritual seekers who dare to stand face to face with the riddle of truth. Cosmic Adultery is a fictionalised sequel to author Kelly Connor's groundbreaking memoir, To Cause A Death. Kelly is inspired by many authors including Rudolf Steiner, Yann Martel, Philippa Gregory, Alice Sebold and Hilary Mantel.

✏The Spirit of Adultery Book Summary : This book is about the realities of the brunt that adultery has on the human (homo spiens) species inhabiting the planet Earth. That which we refer to as adultery being the relationship between a married man/woman and another woman/man who is not their wife/husband. This woman/man at times is also married to another man/woman. This relationship is an unnatural relationship because always the parties are playing hide and seek. The man/woman will never intend that the wife/hubby gathers wind of the nefarious relationship the man/woman is having. The other woman/man whom we say is cheating with him/her, also never anticipates that the husband/wife must hear about the despicable relationship. As such its a relationship of deception. Each person starts by deceiving themselves and then hopes that their self deception will succeed and cascade into their marriage partner somehow to the degree that they must believe whatever lie they are told and live it.The book articulates the fact and truth that whilst in the days of Jesus Christ, adultery apparently was a man committing such a sin or wrong doing, however it is evident and clear that this evil has also fallen on modern day women. It is no longer a matter of a man committing adultery but also a woman. By this is meant a scenario whereby the wife is the one who is cheating with another man whilst the husband is not cheating with any other woman. The book delves into understanding the thought behind adultery. The word spirit is used here because we are talking of something that we are never seeing with our human eyes. Thus, the equating of spirit of adultery to the spirit of Jezebel. Jezebel is a rebellious woman character who is an epitome of a marriage destroyer. And thus the reference to the spirit of Jezebel is intended to draw semblance of that thought which is behind the spirit of Jezebel to surmise that even if she is a whore, she must have a normal marriage. It derives from that thought or spirit in the Jezebel character that it is very clear that whenever persons indulge in adultery they are having the same thought of desiring to have a normal marital relationship even though they are whore like. When one has an emotional and spiritual relationship with another woman/man, that is a very act of adultery. Thus dear reader, the book develops its case on the evils of the spirit of adultery, which are subtle manifestations of the jezebel spirit. The victims and casualties of this evil are identified. Ultimately, a way forward is proposed for the future salvaging of humans from this subtle yet impactful evil is discussed. The crux of it all is to realise that this evil as insignificant as some may want to classify it, it is economically retrogressive, so to speak. Instead of progressing humans are taken backwards and chances of a better human species are wasted. Thus, the need for humans becoming aware of the ways and means the spirit manifests, so that there is proactivity. Human development is under threat as long as we fail to recognis the subtle manifestations of the spirit of Jezebel in the form of adultery.
