✏A Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety Book Summary : If you have anxiety or suffer from panic attacks, little things like driving, being at a party where you don’t know anyone, or even going to the grocery store can seem overwhelming. But these little things are a part of everyday life, and if you try to avoid them, you may end up feeling alienated, lonely, and unfulfilled. Furthermore, simply avoiding anxiety-causing situations will not help you to conquer your anxiety. If anything, it can make it worse! So how can you take control of your anxiety symptoms, once and for all? In The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety, three mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) experts provide mindfulness meditations and exercises to help sooth anxiety, understand common triggers, and live more fully in the moment. Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is a powerful, evidence-based treatment model that fuses mindfulness meditation and yoga, and has been proven effective in treating a wide range of chronic disorders and diseases. MBSR is an 8-week program based on rigorous and systematic training in mindfulness meditation techniques. This study explored the MBSR program as a holistic intervention for older adults. Using a mixed-method and integral methodological approach, the researcher blended both quantitative and qualitative research methods of data collection and data analysis. Quantitative methods were used to measure the effects of the MBSR in terms of mindfulness, well-being (subjective and psychological well-being), death perspectives, psychological and physical symptoms, cognitive performance, spirituality, and spiritual well-being. Qualitative methods were based on heuristic inquiry that was used to explore the lived experience of the MBSR program and its impact in elders' experience of aging, well-being, physical health, and spirituality.

✏Mindfulness based Stress MBSR Reduction Workshop to Decrease Nurses Stress Perception Book Summary : In Registered Nurses, does a mindfulness-training program compared to no mindfulness-training program decrease the amount of the nurses perceived stress levels? Current research has demonstrated concern for the high stress of the nursing profession, particularly in today's evolving healthcare environment. While nurses are well equipped with the education and knowledge to care for patients, they are often ill-prepared and under educated when it comes to personal stress management coping skills. Stress is a major concern in the nursing profession, not only does it have devastating physical and psychological consequences, but it also places health care organizations at risk as essential nursing staff leave the field due to stress and burnout (Smith, 2014). Review of contemporary research reveals that part of the solution to the aforementioned problem is utilizing mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to decrease nurse perceived stress (White, 2014). Researchers Poulin, Mackenzie, Soloway, and Karayolas, found a substantial decrease in emotional exhaustion following implementation of a brief MBSR program for nurses (2008). The following is a proposal for implementation of a MBSR workshop program that incorporates Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM) to decrease perceived stress, increase well-being, and consequently improve patient care within the hospital organization. The workshop will consist of an initial phase where the organizations nurse educators, nurse managers, and charge nurses completing a traditional eight week MBSR training program. The second phase will include staff nurses completing a one day MBSR workshop followed by reflective weekly meetings over the following six weeks overseen by the initial team trained in phase one. Following the implementation of MBSR within the organization, evaluative scale measures including the perceived stress scale (PSS) and the mindfulness attention awareness scale (MAAS) will be utilized to track program effectiveness. In addition, in-house surveys, analysis of nurse turnover rates, and review of patient satisfaction surveys will be conducted to gain additional insight into program effectiveness. The results of the program will be disseminated both within and outside the organization to provide others opportunity to incorporate lessons learned and implement similar MBSR workshops of their own.

✏F190 Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction s Influence on Brain computer Interface Control Book Summary : Abstract : Introduction: Sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can be used to control an external device through motor imagery. SMRs are oscillations that can be measured by electroencephalography (EEG) over the sensorimotor cortex. The ability to imagine movements and modulate SMRs is variable across individuals. Previous work has suggested that long-term mind-body awareness training (MBAT) offers merits in improving the performance of SMR based BCIs. However, whether such improved BCI performance results from a natural affinity for mental training or directly from MBAT is not clear. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that short-term MBAT can exert an influence over BCI control. Methods: To assess the effects of MBAT on BCI control, 28 subjects attended an 8-week mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) class. BCI learning was compared between these MBAT subjects and 21 wait-listed controls, across several days of SMR based BCI training sessions. Subjects performed motor imagery of hand movements, while EEG rhythm at 12 Hz (3 Hz band, over C3/C4) was extracted and used to decode subjects' intention to move a computer cursor. Subjects were instructed to imagine left (right) hand movement to move the cursor left (right), movement in both hands to move the cursor up, and a voluntary rest to move the cursor down. In separate blocks of trials, subjects attempted to steer the cursor to a target that required left/right (LR) movement only, up/down (UD) only, and combined 2D movement (2D). Percent valid correct (PVC) calculated as the number of hits divided by the total number of non-timeout trials was used to assess accuracy. Results: Overall, MBAT subjects demonstrated improvements in accuracy across training sessions in the UD and 2D paradigms with increases in performance of 13% ( p

✏13 PATIENT ADHERENCE AND SATISFACTION OF A MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY DISORDERS PRELIMINARY DATA FROM AN OBSERVATIONAL INVESTIGATION Book Summary : Objectives: To evaluate acceptability of a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) treatment among patients with Anxiety Disorders (ADs).Background and aims. Traditional psychotherapies of ADs are effective but are not always sustainable. A short-course MBSR treatment may be a rather unexpensive option for the clinical improvement and functional rehabilitation of patients with AD.Materials and methods. Subjects are adult mid-class patients suffering from AD (mostly GAD) who were evaluated in a tertiary-level outpatient clinic; as necessary, anxiety symptoms were stabilized by means of a drug treatment at ordinary doses (SSRIs, SNRIs, other). Patients are recruited on a free-will base and pay a small fee for participation. A typical MBSR manualized treatment is delivered in small group sessions (6 to 10 people) during a 8-week course by an expert therapist/trainer. The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale is administered at the beginning and at the end of treatment, and patients complete a final satisfaction questionnaire.Results. Preliminary data are shown from a small series of 10 patients. Almost all the subjects do complete their treatment course. Treatment works well and satisfaction level is high.Conclusions. MBSR treatment is an interesting option for patients with ADs. The identification of specific factors of efficacy and acceptability will improve the selection procedure of candidate subjects.

✏The Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens Book Summary : Between school, friends, and planning for the future, it’s easy to feel stressed out. Written by a psychotherapist specializing in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and featuring brand new exercises, The Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens, Second Edition shows how mindfulness skills can help you relax, prioritize, and keep calm during stressful times. Your teenage years are some of the most stressful of your life. With pressure about grades at school, parents who just don’t seem to get it, dating, and friends who drive you crazy, it’s no wonder. But here's the good news! If you learn a few strategies for getting stress under control now, you’ll have the skills you need to deal with problems and difficult feelings that life sends your way—in high school and beyond. The Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens is a collection of simple workbook activities that will teach you to reduce your worries using a technique called mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way to be aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. You can use mindfulness when you start to feel as though things are spinning out of control, so you can stop worrying about what might happen and focus instead on what’s happening now. If you’re like many people, you find it easy to look at your negative qualities or feel there is no way to fix your problems or stress. This book is about building on the resources, skills, and positive qualities that you might not even realize you have. It is a way to move from “I'm powerless” thinking to “I can do it!” thinking. Hundreds of teens in mindfulness-based stress reduction classes have used activities like the ones in this book, and here is what some of them have said: “I have learned to let things go and move on from bad experiences.” “I felt that the coping skills learned are easy enough and effective enough to be used when I need. I now feel at the very least that I have the ability to reduce my stress.” “I learned new and different ways to stay relaxed and how to deal with stress and now I don’t worry much.” If they can do it, so can you! By practicing the skills outlined in this workbook, you'll be well on your way to developing lasting resilience and a new kind of strength—one that comes from within. Why not get started today?

The Dharma of Modern Mindfulness uncovers the essential Buddhist teachings at the heart of this powerful anti-stress program, enabling you to deepen your historical and spiritual understanding of MBSR and nourish your practice. Meditation and mindfulness are everywhere: in hospitals, clinics, and schools; in major medical, psychological, and scientific journals; on TV; and in popular publications—even on the cover of Time magazine. And thankfully so—since Jon Kabat-Zinn developed MBSR, a treatment blending meditation and yoga, it has been proven effective in treating conditions like chronic pain, stress, anxiety, and depression for sufferers around the world. Lesser known, however, are the deep philosophical roots of MBSR known as the Buddhist dharma, translated as “the teachings of the Buddha.” Although they form the very foundation underlying MBSR and other mindfulness-based interventions, they often remain hidden within modern mindfulness practices. The Dharma of Modern Mindfulness illuminates these cornerstones, communicating previously esoteric teachings with language that makes them easily accessible and applicable to your complex daily life. The book follows the structure of an eight-week MBSR class, paralleling the participant’s journey with that of the Buddha for the alleviation of suffering. With real-life examples, guided reflections, and practices throughout, this book will show you the connections between the ancient wisdom of Buddhism and contemporary MBSR. Regardless of your background, status, or education, and whether you’re a practitioner, teacher, or trainer, this invitation to explore the essential Buddhist teachings at the heart of modern mindfulness—such as the four noble truths, the noble eightfold path, and the four brahmaviharas: loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity—will expand your understanding and enhance your practice, and, in doing so, connect you with your inner wisdom and deepest humanity.

✏Mindfulness in the Work Place Book Summary : Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Health - Sport - Sport Economics, Sport Management, grade: 1,7, Sport Academy Cologne, language: English, abstract: This work provides an overview of the practice of mindfulness with an emphasis on incorporating this valuable skill in the business context, helping employees to reduce stress as well as to promote health and well being. Conscious attention to the present moment in a receptive way is known as mindfulness. A growing body of research indicates that mindfulness can be taught and cultivated to improve physical and mental health, which can also be promising in the business or economical context. Still there is the need for further research in that area. Additionally, the use of the practice of mindfulness in businesses may lead to the misuse of the technique for gain and profit, rather than for it’s original purpose – to create well-being and mental health. Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction offers a program, which is adapted to today’s requirements, to reduce stress and to facilitate mental health and well being. Especially in the corporate world, there is a vast potential of improvement, regarding the often times high demands of the jobs. MBSR programs can be integrated in business on a regular basis or on a retreat basis, which can advance the atmosphere and the productivity. Additionally there is a great possibility of a lower rate of sick employees. Globalization, capitalism, quickly changing working environments, instability and newer and easier ways of communication have profoundly changed the way of the working world and society. Changes in working environments have always had an impact on individuals, but todays needs of adaption on the quickly moving business world result more frequently in mental stress. Even „healthy“ employees feel this constant pressure and start losing their enjoyment with their profession. Thanks to Jon Kabat-Zinn, who started in the mid 1970’s with the development and implementation of his mindfulness-based Stress reduction program (MBSR), 17.000 patients have already found treatment for their psychological stress in Kabat-Zinns’s facilities in the USA with mindfulness being the central aspect of the program. And by now, Mindfulness-based stress reduction has made its way into medical institutions all over the world (Kabat-Zinn, 2011). It became clear that “mindfulness as a therapeutic principle” “ (Michalak et al., 2012) might also be an effective method for workplace health promotion and burnout treatment.

✏A Quantitative Study of the Effectiveness of Mindfulness based Stress Reduction Treatment Using an Internet delivered Self help Program for Women with Generalized Anxiety Disorder Book Summary : This is the first randomized controlled study examining the effectiveness of the Internet version of the mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSRi) for women between 25 and 50 years old who had been previously diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It was hypothesized that the effectiveness of the MBSRi program will be demonstrated by a comparison between the mean post-test scores between the experimental group and the wait list control group. An analysis of the mean post-test scores indicated significant differences. The results supported the alternative hypothesis for the effectiveness of the MBSRi program in reducing anxiety, increasing well-being and increasing mindfulness. However, these results should be taken in the context of this sample of women with GAD and caution should be demonstrated in generalizing these findings to a multi-cultural, diverse population.
