✏Till Human Voices Wake Us Book Summary : Love and duty come in many guises ... When everything falls apart around Raphael, he starts over anew. As an immortal mage responsible for our world’s magic, this has happened more times than he cares to count. He no longer finds it exciting. In a modern London where magic hides around every corner, he awaits the end of the Great Game, a magical contest he is playing with the enchantress Circe. The Game’s prize is the world’s magic, and its price almost certainly Armageddon. Win or lose, Raphael is willing to sacrifice his power, his soul, and his life to prevent the end of the world. His heart doesn’t even enter his calculations. Three days before the crux of the Game his long-lost brother comes to find him—and along with unwelcoming memories brings a gift far more dangerous than any enemy: hope. Till Human Voices Wake Us is a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, a story where love, like duty, like Raphael himself, has many unexpected faces. Keywords: contemporary fantasy, mythological retellings, literary fantasy, mythopoeic fantasy, Orpheus and Eurydice, Greek myths

✏Lending Resumption After Default Lessons from Capital Markets During the 19th Century EPub Book Summary : This paper mines the experience of capital markets during the 19th century to propose an alternative way of interpreting international default episodes. The standard view is that defaulting on sovereign debt entails exclusion from capital markets. Yet we have observed multiple instances of sovereign debt default in which the reaction of lenders was not the one predicted by the punishment story: in some cases, lending ceased for long periods, but in others it was not interrupted. This paper claims that the reaction of lenders after default stems from the additional knowledge about the borrower that lenders acquire during these episodes. The lending relationship is modeled in a costly state-verification environment in which governments have private information about their investment projects (good or bad). It is shown that, in the event of default, it is worthwhile for lenders to find out more about the type of project, and then interrupt lending only if the project is believed to be a bad one.

After accidentally knocking one off a mountainside, she tossed the other away. In this way, they become symbols for her former life that hemmed her in. A free spirit, Strayed’s mother, Bobbi, raised her kids in a series of cheap apartments, then in a primitive house without running water in the Minnesota woods. Bobbi was so close to Strayed that they went to college together. Strayed’s world fell apart when her mother, Bobbi, was diagnosed with lung cancer and died within weeks. In her grief, Strayed pulled away from her sister, brother, stepfather, and husband, Paul. Without her mother, she was not sure who she was.
